KJV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
King James BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;1Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.2so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:3For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.
Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:4In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you;
Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.5but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.6For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.7The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.8Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
Use hospitality one to another without grudging.9Be hospitable to one another without complaint.
As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.10As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.11Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.13but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.
If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.14If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.15Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.16but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?17For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?18AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?
Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.19Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
