King James Bible | English Standard Version |
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. | 1Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. |
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. | 2And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. |
His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: | 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. |
And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. | 4And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. |
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. | 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. |
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. | 6He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. |
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. | 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” |
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. | 8So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. |
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. | 9And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. |
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. | 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” |
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. | 11While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. |
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, | 12And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers |
Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. | 13and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ |
And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. | 14And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” |
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. | 15So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day. |
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. | 16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. |
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. | 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. |
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. | 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. |
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: | 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, |
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. | 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” |
