International Standard Version | New Living Translation |
Blessed is the one who is considerate of the destitute; the LORD will deliver him when the times are evil. | 1Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The LORD rescues them when they are in trouble. |
The LORD will protect him and keep him alive; he will be blessed in the land; and he will not be handed over to the desires of his enemies. | 2The LORD protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies. |
The LORD will uphold him even on his sickbed; you will transform his bed of illness into health. | 3The LORD nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health. |
As for me, I said, "LORD, be gracious to me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you!" | 4“O LORD,” I prayed, “have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.” |
As for my enemies, with malice they said, "When will he die and memory of his name perish?" | 5But my enemies say nothing but evil about me. “How soon will he die and be forgotten?” they ask. |
The one who comes to visit me speaks lies; in his heart he thinks slanderous things about me and goes around spreading them. | 6They visit me as if they were my friends, but all the while they gather gossip, and when they leave, they spread it everywhere. |
As for all who hate me, they whisper together against me; they desire to do me harm. | 7All who hate me whisper about me, imagining the worst. |
They say, "Wickedness is entrenched in him. Once he is brought low, he will not rise again." | 8“He has some fatal disease,” they say. “He will never get out of that bed!” |
As for my best friend, the one in whom I trusted, the one who ate my bread, even he has insulted me! | 9Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me. |
But you, LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up so that I may pay them back! | 10LORD, have mercy on me. Make me well again, so I can pay them back! |
In this way I will know that you are pleased with me, and that my enemies will not shout in triumph over me. | 11I know you are pleased with me, for you have not let my enemies triumph over me. |
As for me, you will maintain my just cause, and you will cause me to stand in your presence forever. | 12You have preserved my life because I am innocent; you have brought me into your presence forever. |
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, from eternity to eternity. Amen and amen! | 13Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen! |
