Psalm 2
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Why are the nations in an uproar, and their people involved in a vain plot?1Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans?
As the kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and his anointed one, they say, 2The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the LORD and against his anointed one.
"Let us tear off their shackles from us, and cast off their chains."3“Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.”
He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.4But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.
In his anger he rebukes them, and in his wrath he terrifies them:5Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury.
"I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain."6For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”
Let me announce the decree of the LORD that he told me: "You are my son, today I have become your father.7The king proclaims the LORD’s decree: “The LORD said to me, ‘You are my son. Today I have become your Father.
Ask of me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your possession.8Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.
You will break them with an iron rod, you will shatter them like pottery."9You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’”
Therefore, kings, act wisely! Earthly rulers, be warned!10Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.11Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the son before he becomes angry, and you die where you stand. Indeed, his wrath can flare up quickly. How blessed are those who take refuge in him.12Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities— for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!
