Ezekiel 10
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
As I continued to watch, there on the expanse above the heads of the cherubim was a massive sapphire stone that resembled a throne in form and appearance. 1In my vision I saw what appeared to be a throne of blue lapis lazuli above the crystal surface over the heads of the cherubim.
The LORD spoke to the man who was clothed in white linen, telling him, "Go between the whirling wheels, under the cherubim, and fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim. Then scatter them over the city." So he entered as I watched. 2Then the LORD spoke to the man in linen clothing and said, “Go between the whirling wheels beneath the cherubim, and take a handful of burning coals and scatter them over the city.” He did this as I watched.
Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the entrance to the Temple, when the man entered and a cloud filled the inner court. 3The cherubim were standing at the south end of the Temple when the man went in, and the cloud of glory filled the inner courtyard.
The glory of the LORD rose above the cherub and moved to the threshold of the Temple. A cloud filled the Temple and the court was filled with the brilliance of the LORD's glory. 4Then the glory of the LORD rose up from above the cherubim and went over to the entrance of the Temple. The Temple was filled with this cloud of glory, and the courtyard glowed brightly with the glory of the LORD.
The sound of the wings of the cherubim, reminiscent of the voice of the Sovereign God when he speaks, could be heard as far as the outer court.5The moving wings of the cherubim sounded like the voice of God Almighty and could be heard even in the outer courtyard.
He issued this order to the man who was clothed in white linen: "Take fire from within the whirling wheels, among the cherubim." So he went and stood beside the wheels.6The LORD said to the man in linen clothing, “Go between the cherubim and take some burning coals from between the wheels.” So the man went in and stood beside one of the wheels.
Then a cherub stretched out his hand to the fire, which was among the cherubim, took some of the fire, and placed it in the hands of the one clothed in white linen, who took it and left. 7Then one of the cherubim reached out his hand and took some live coals from the fire burning among them. He put the coals into the hands of the man in linen clothing, and the man took them and went out.
There appeared to be human hands under the wings of the cherubim.8(All the cherubim had what looked like human hands under their wings.)
As I continued to watch, I observed four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub. The wheels resembled beryl stone. 9I looked, and each of the four cherubim had a wheel beside him, and the wheels sparkled like beryl.
In appearance, the four wheels looked like they consisted of a wheel within a wheel. 10All four wheels looked alike and were made the same; each wheel had a second wheel turning crosswise within it.
Whenever they moved, they proceeded without turning around as they moved, but they followed in the direction where their head was facing, without looking around as they moved.11The cherubim could move in any of the four directions they faced, without turning as they moved. They went straight in the direction they faced, never turning aside.
Their entire bodies, backs, hands, and wings were filled with eyes around, including each of their four wheels. 12Both the cherubim and the wheels were covered with eyes. The cherubim had eyes all over their bodies, including their hands, their backs, and their wings.
The wheels whose sound I was hearing were called "the whirling wheels". 13I heard someone refer to the wheels as “the whirling wheels.”
Each had four faces. The first one was the face of a cherub, the second the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.14Each of the four cherubim had four faces: the first was the face of an ox, the second was a human face, the third was the face of a lion, and the fourth was the face of an eagle.
The cherubim arose. These were the same beings that I had seen at the Chebar River. 15Then the cherubim rose upward. These were the same living beings I had seen beside the Kebar River.
When the cherubim moved, the wheels went alongside them. But when the cherubim started to ascend, beating their wings to rise above the earth, the wheels beside them didn't turn. 16When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved with them. When they lifted their wings to fly, the wheels stayed beside them.
When they stood still, the wheels stood still. When they rose up, the wheels rose up, too, because they were alive. 17When the cherubim stopped, the wheels stopped. When they flew upward, the wheels rose up, for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels.
Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold of the Temple and stood over the cherubim. 18Then the glory of the LORD moved out from the entrance of the Temple and hovered above the cherubim.
The cherubim lifted their wings and rose above the earth while I watched. They went out, along with their wheels, and stood at the entrance to the east gate of the LORD's Temple as the glory of Israel's God remained above, covering them.19And as I watched, the cherubim flew with their wheels to the east gate of the LORD’s Temple. And the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them.
These were the living beings that I had seen under the God of Israel on the bank of the Chebar River. I knew that they were cherubim. 20These were the same living beings I had seen beneath the God of Israel when I was by the Kebar River. I knew they were cherubim,
Each one had four faces. Each one had four wings, and the form of human hands could be seen under their wings. 21for each had four faces and four wings and what looked like human hands under their wings.
As to the likeness of their faces, they were like what I had seen on the bank of the Chebar River. They each moved straight ahead.22And their faces were just like the faces of the beings I had seen at the Kebar, and they traveled straight ahead, just as the others had.
