1Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. | 1You godly ones, shout for joy because of the LORD! It is appropriate for the morally upright to offer him praise. |
2Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! | 2Give thanks to the LORD with the harp! Sing to him to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument! |
3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. | 3Sing to him a new song! Play skillfully as you shout out your praises to him! |
4For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. | 4For the LORD's decrees are just, and everything he does is fair. |
5He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. | 5The LORD promotes equity and justice; the LORD's faithfulness extends throughout the earth. |
6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. | 6By the LORD's decree the heavens were made; by a mere word from his mouth all the stars in the sky were created. |

12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! | 12How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen to be his special possession. |
13The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; | 13The LORD watches from heaven; he sees all people. |
14from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, | 14From the place where he lives he looks carefully at all the earth's inhabitants. |
15he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. | 15He is the one who forms every human heart, and takes note of all their actions. |
16The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. | 16No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might. |
17The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. | 17A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver. |
18Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, | 18Look, the LORD takes notice of his loyal followers, those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness |
19that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. | 19by saving their lives from death and sustaining them during times of famine. |
20Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. | 20We wait for the LORD; he is our deliverer and shield. |
21For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. | 21For our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name. |
22Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. | 22May we experience your faithfulness, O LORD, for we wait for you. |
