I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. | 1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. |
O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. | 2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. |
O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. | 3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. |
Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. | 4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. |
For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. | 5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. |
As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” | 6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." |
By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed. | 7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. |
To you, O LORD, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: | 8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: |
“What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? | 9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? |
Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me! O LORD, be my helper!” | 10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" |
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, | 11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. |
that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever! | 12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. |
