For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Blessed is the one who cares for the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of trouble.1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
The LORD will protect and preserve him; He will bless him in the land and refuse to surrender him to the will of his foes.2The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness.3The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against You.”4I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
My enemies say with malice: “When will he die and be forgotten?”5Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
My visitor speaks falsehood; he gathers slander in his heart; he goes out and spreads it abroad.6And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
All who hate me whisper against me; they imagine the worst for me:7All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
“A vile disease has been poured into him; he will never get up from where he lies!”8An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
Even my close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.9Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, that I may repay them.10But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
By this I know that You delight in me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.11By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
In my integrity You uphold me and set me in Your presence forever.12And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.13Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
