Continue in brotherly love. | 1Let brotherly love continue. |
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. | 2Stop neglecting to show hospitality to strangers, for by showing hospitality some have had angels as their guests without being aware of it. |
Remember those in prison as if you were bound with them, and those who are mistreated as if you were suffering with them. | 3Continue to remember those in prison as if you were in prison with them, as well as those who are mistreated, since they also are only mortal. |
Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. | 4Let marriage be kept honorable in every way, and the marriage bed undefiled. For God will judge those who commit sexual sins, especially those who commit adultery. |
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” | 5Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, "I will never leave you or abandon you." |
So we say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” | 6Hence we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?" |
Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. | 7Remember your leaders, those who have spoken God's word to you. Think about the impact of their lives, and imitate their faith. |
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. | 8Jesus, the Messiah, is the same yesterday and today—and forever! |
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace and not by foods of no value to those devoted to them. | 9Stop being carried away by all kinds of unusual teachings, for it is good that the heart be strengthened by grace, not by food laws that have never helped those who follow them. |
We have an altar from which those who serve at the tabernacle have no right to eat. | 10We have an altar, and those who serve in the tent have no right to eat at it. |
Although the high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, the bodies are burned outside the camp. | 11For the bodies of animals, whose blood is taken into the sanctuary by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. |
And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate, to sanctify the people by His own blood. | 12That is why Jesus, in order to sanctify the people by his own blood, also suffered outside the city gate. |
Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore. | 13Therefore go to him outside the camp and endure the insults he endured. |
For here we do not have a permanent city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. | 14For here we have no permanent city but are looking for the one that is coming. |
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name. | 15Therefore, through him let us always bring God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess his name. |
And do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. | 16Do not neglect to do good and to be generous, for God is pleased with such sacrifices. |
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch over your souls as those who must give an account. To this end, allow them to lead with joy and not with grief, for that would be of no advantage to you. | 17Continue to follow and be submissive to your leaders, since they are watching over your souls as those who will have to give a word of explanation. By doing this, you will be letting them carry out their duties joyfully, and not with grief, for that would be harmful for you. |
Pray for us; we are convinced that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. | 18Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. |
And I especially urge you to pray that I may be restored to you soon. | 19I especially ask you to do this so that I may be brought back to you sooner. |
Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, | 20Now may the God of peace, who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the sheep, |
equip you with every good thing to do His will. And may He accomplish in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. | 21equip you with everything good to do his will, accomplishing in us what pleases him through Jesus, the Messiah. To him be glory forever and ever! Amen. |
I urge you, brothers, to bear with my word of exhortation, for I have only written to you briefly. | 22I urge you, brothers, to listen patiently to my encouraging message, for I have written you a short letter. |
Be aware that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you. | 23You should know that our brother Timothy has been set free. If he comes soon, he will be with me when I see you. |
Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy send you greetings. | 24Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those who are from Italy greet you. |
Grace be with all of you. | 25May grace be with all of you! |
