And the LORD said to Job:1The LORD answered Job:
“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer.”2Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.
Then Job answered the LORD:3Then Job answered the LORD:
“Behold, I am insignificant. How can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.4I am so insignificant. How can I answer You? I place my hand over my mouth.
I have spoken once, but I have no answer—twice, but I have nothing to add.”5I have spoken once, and I will not reply; twice, but now I can add nothing.
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:
“Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.7Get ready to answer Me like a man; When I question you, you will inform Me.
Would you really annul My justice? Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?8Would you really challenge My justice? Would you declare Me guilty to justify yourself?
Do you have an arm like God’s? Can you thunder with a voice like His?9Do you have an arm like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like His?
Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.10Adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.
Unleash the fury of your wrath; look on every proud man and bring him low.11Unleash your raging anger; look on every proud person and humiliate him.
Look on every proud man and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.12Look on every proud person and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.
Bury them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.13Hide them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.
Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can save you.14Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can deliver you.
Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.15Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.
See the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly.16Look at the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly.
His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.17He stiffens his tail like a cedar tree; the tendons of his thighs are woven firmly together.
His bones are tubes of bronze; his limbs are rods of iron.18His bones are bronze tubes; his limbs are like iron rods.
He is the foremost of God’s works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.19He is the foremost of God's works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.
The hills yield him their produce, while all the beasts of the field play nearby.20The hills yield food for him, while all sorts of wild animals play there.
He lies under the lotus plants, hidden among the reeds of the marsh.21He lies under the lotus plants, hiding in the protection of marshy reeds.
The lotus plants conceal him in their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.22Lotus plants cover him with their shade; the willows by the brook surround him.
Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains secure, though the Jordan surges to his mouth.23Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains confident, even if the Jordan surges up to his mouth.
Can anyone capture him as he looks on, or pierce his nose with a snare?24Can anyone capture him while he looks on, or pierce his nose with snares?
