Berean Study BibleEnglish Standard Version
And the LORD said to Job:1And the LORD said to Job:
“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer.”2“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”
Then Job answered the LORD:3Then Job answered the LORD and said:
“Behold, I am insignificant. How can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.4“Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.
I have spoken once, but I have no answer—twice, but I have nothing to add.”5I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.”
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:6Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:
“Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.7“Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me.
Would you really annul My justice? Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?8Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?
Do you have an arm like God’s? Can you thunder with a voice like His?9Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.10“Adorn yourself with majesty and dignity; clothe yourself with glory and splendor.
Unleash the fury of your wrath; look on every proud man and bring him low.11Pour out the overflowings of your anger, and look on everyone who is proud and abase him.
Look on every proud man and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.12Look on everyone who is proud and bring him low and tread down the wicked where they stand.
Bury them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.13Hide them all in the dust together; bind their faces in the world below.
Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can save you.14Then will I also acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you.
Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.15“Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox.
See the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly.16Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly.
His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.17He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together.
His bones are tubes of bronze; his limbs are rods of iron.18His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron.
He is the foremost of God’s works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.19“He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword!
The hills yield him their produce, while all the beasts of the field play nearby.20For the mountains yield food for him where all the wild beasts play.
He lies under the lotus plants, hidden among the reeds of the marsh.21Under the lotus plants he lies, in the shelter of the reeds and in the marsh.
The lotus plants conceal him in their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.22For his shade the lotus trees cover him; the willows of the brook surround him.
Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains secure, though the Jordan surges to his mouth.23Behold, if the river is turbulent he is not frightened; he is confident though Jordan rushes against his mouth.
Can anyone capture him as he looks on, or pierce his nose with a snare?24Can one take him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a snare?
