3Does it please you to oppress me, to spurn the work of your hands, while you smile on the plans of the wicked? | 3Does it seem good to you to oppress, to despise the work of your hands and favor the designs of the wicked? | 3'Is it right for You indeed to oppress, To reject the labor of Your hands, And to look favorably on the schemes of the wicked? | 3Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked? | 3Is it good for You to oppress, to reject the work of Your hands, and favor the plans of the wicked? |
4Do you have eyes of flesh? Do you see as a mortal sees? | 4Have you eyes of flesh? Do you see as man sees? | 4'Have You eyes of flesh? Or do You see as a man sees? | 4Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth? | 4Do You have eyes of flesh, or do You see as a human sees? |
5Are your days like those of a mortal or your years like those of a strong man, | 5Are your days as the days of man, or your years as a man’s years, | 5'Are Your days as the days of a mortal, Or Your years as man's years, | 5Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man's days, | 5Are Your days like those of a human, or Your years like those of a man, |
6that you must search out my faults and probe after my sin-- | 6that you seek out my iniquity and search for my sin, | 6That You should seek for my guilt And search after my sin? | 6That thou inquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin? | 6that You look for my wrongdoing and search for my sin, |
7though you know that I am not guilty and that no one can rescue me from your hand? | 7although you know that I am not guilty, and there is none to deliver out of your hand? | 7'According to Your knowledge I am indeed not guilty, Yet there is no deliverance from Your hand. | 7Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand. | 7even though You know that I am not wicked and that there is no one who can deliver from Your hand? |
8"Your hands shaped me and made me. Will you now turn and destroy me? | 8Your hands fashioned and made me, and now you have destroyed me altogether. | 8'Your hands fashioned and made me altogether, And would You destroy me? | 8Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me. | 8"Your hands shaped me and formed me. Will You now turn and destroy me? |
9Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again? | 9Remember that you have made me like clay; and will you return me to the dust? | 9'Remember now, that You have made me as clay; And would You turn me into dust again? | 9Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again? | 9Please remember that You formed me like clay. 13"But this is what you concealed in your heart, and I know that this was in your mind: | 13Yet these things you hid in your heart; I know that this was your purpose. | 13'Yet these things You have concealed in Your heart; I know that this is within You: | 13And these things hast thou hid in thine heart: I know that this is with thee. | 13"Yet You concealed these thoughts in Your heart; I know that this was Your hidden plan: |
14If I sinned, you would be watching me and would not let my offense go unpunished. | 14If I sin, you watch me and do not acquit me of my iniquity. | 14If I sin, then You would take note of me, And would not acquit me of my guilt. | 14If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity. | 14if I sin, You would notice, and would not acquit me of my wrongdoing. |
15If I am guilty--woe to me! Even if I am innocent, I cannot lift my head, for I am full of shame and drowned in my affliction. | 15If I am guilty, woe to me! If I am in the right, I cannot lift up my head, for I am filled with disgrace and look on my affliction. | 15If I am wicked, woe to me! And if I am righteous, I dare not lift up my head. I am sated with disgrace and conscious of my misery. | 15If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see thou mine affliction; | 15If I am wicked, woe to me! And even if I am righteous, I cannot lift up my head. I am filled with shame and aware of my affliction. |
16If I hold my head high, you stalk me like a lion and again display your awesome power against me. | 16And were my head lifted up, you would hunt me like a lion and again work wonders against me. | 16Should my head be lifted up, You would hunt me like a lion; And again You would show Your power against me. | 16For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest thyself marvellous upon me. | 16If I am proud, You hunt me like a lion and again display Your miraculous power against me. |
17You bring new witnesses against me and increase your anger toward me; your forces come against me wave upon wave. | 17You renew your witnesses against me and increase your vexation toward me; you bring fresh troops against me. | 17'You renew Your witnesses against me And increase Your anger toward me; Hardship after hardship is with me. | 17Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thine indignation upon me; changes and war are against me. | 17You produce new witnesses against me and multiply Your anger toward me. Hardships assault me, wave after wave. |
18"Why then did you bring me out of the womb? I wish I had died before any eye saw me. | 18“Why did you bring me out from the womb? Would that I had died before any eye had seen me | 18'Why then have You brought me out of the womb? Would that I had died and no eye had seen me! | 18Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me! | 18"Why did You bring me out of the womb? I should have died and never been seen. |
19If only I had never come into being, or had been carried straight from the womb to the grave! | 19and were as though I had not been, carried from the womb to the grave. | 19'I should have been as though I had not been, Carried from womb to tomb.' | 19I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave. | 19I wish I had never existed but had been carried from the womb to the grave. |
20Are not my few days almost over? Turn away from me so I can have a moment's joy | 20Are not my days few? Then cease, and leave me alone, that I may find a little cheer | 20"Would He not let my few days alone? Withdraw from me that I may have a little cheer | 20Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little, | 20Are my days not few? Stop it! Leave me alone, so that I can smile a little |
21before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and utter darkness, | 21before I go—and I shall not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow, | 21Before I go-- and I shall not return-- To the land of darkness and deep shadow, | 21Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death; | 21before I go to a land of darkness and gloom, never to return. |
