And Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
And early morning, He came again into the temple and all the people came to Him; and having sat down, He was teaching them.
And the scribes and the Pharisees bring to Him a woman having been caught upon adultery and having stood her in the midst,
They say to Him, Teacher, this woman was caught upon the very act, committing adultery.
And in the law, Moses commanded us that such be stoned; What then do you say?
And this they said, testing Him so that they might have [something] to accuse Him. And Jesus, having stooped down, wrote with His finger into the ground.
And as they continued asking Him, having lifted up Himself and He said to them, The one sinless among you, let him cast the first stone upon her.
And again having stooped down, He wrote into the ground.
And having heard {and being convicted by (under) the conscience}, they went out one by one, having begun from the elder ones until the last, and Jesus was left alone and the women being in the midst.
And Jesus having lifted up and saw no one except the woman, said to her, Woman, where are they who accuse you? No one has condemned you?
And she said, No one, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn you; go and {from now} sin no more. 12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the Light of the world; the one following Me shall not walk in the darkness but will have the Light of life. 13The Pharisees then said to Him, You are bearing witness concerning Yourself; Your testimony is not true. 14Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I am bearing witness concerning Myself, My testimony is true, because I know from where I came and where I go. You however do not know from where I come or where I go. 15You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone. 16And if I also judge, My judgment is true, because I am not alone but I and the Father having sent Me. 17And in your law also it has been written, The testimony of two men is true. 18I am the One bearing witness concerning Myself and the Father having sent Me bears witness concerning Me. 19They therefore said to Him, Where is Your Father? Jesus answered, You neither know Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. 20These words He spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no one took Him, because His hour had not yet come. 21Then again He said to them, I am going away and you will seek Me and you will die in your sin; where I go, you are not able to come. 22The Jews therefore said, Will He kill Himself, that He says, Where I go, you are not able to come? 23And He said to them, You are from out of below (lower, under, down), I am from out of above (up); You are from out of this world, I am not from out of this world. 24I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am [He], you will die in your sins. 25They said therefore to Him, Who are You? Jesus said to them, What also I am saying to you from the beginning. 26I have many things to say and to judge concerning you; but the One having sent Me is true, and I, what I have heard from Him, these things I say unto the world. 27They did not recognize that He spoke to them of the Father. 28Jesus therefore said to them, When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am [He], and I do nothing from Myself, but just as the Father taught Me, I speak these things. 29And the One having sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone because I always do the things pleasing to Him. 30In His speaking these things, many believed unto Him. 31Jesus therefore said to those Jews having believed unto Him, If you abide in My word, truly you are My disciples. 32And you will know the truth and the truth will liberate (free) you. 33They answered to Him, We are Abraham’s seed and we have never been under bondage to anyone; how do You say, You will become free ones (liberated ones)? 34Jesus answered them, Truly, truly I say to you that everyone committing sin is a slave (servant) of sin. 35And the slave does not abide in the house unto the age; the Son abides unto the age. 36If therefore the Son shall liberate you, you will be liberated ones indeed. 37I know that you are the seed of Abraham; but you seek to kill Me, because My word does not receive a place in you. 38That which I have seen with the Father, I speak; you therefore also do what you have seen with your father. 39They answered and said to Him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus says to them, If you were children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham; 40However now you seek to kill Me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, that I heard from God. This Abraham did not do. 41You are doing the works of your father. They said then to Him, We have not been born from out of fornication (sexual immorality); we have one Father, God. 42Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would have loved Me, for I came out from God and am here; for I have not come from Myself, but He sent Me. 43Why do you not know My speech? Because you are not able to hear My word. 44You are from out of your father the devil, and you want to do the passionate urges of your father. He was a murderer (man-slayer) from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he might speak falsehood, he speaks from out of his own; because he is a liar and the father of it. 45And because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me! 46Which of you convicts (exposes, reproves, convinces) Me concerning sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47He who is from out of God, hears the sayings (rhemata) of God; because of this you do not hear, because you are not from out of God. 48The Jews answered and said to Him, Do we not rightly (kalos) say that You are a Samaritan and have a demon? 49Jesus answered, I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father and you dishonor Me. 50And I do not seek My glory; there is One seeking it and judging. 51Truly, truly I say to you, If anyone keeps My word, he shall never see death unto the age. 52Then the Jews said to Him, Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets, and You say, If anyone keeps My word, he shall never taste of death unto the age. 53Are You greater than our father Abraham who died? And the prophets died! Whom You make Yourself? 54Jesus answered, If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father glorifying Me, of whom you say, He is our God. 55And you have not known Him, however I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be like you, a liar. But I know Him and I keep His word. 56Your father Abraham rejoiced greatly (exulted) in that he should see My day, and he saw and rejoiced. 57The Jews therefore said to Him, You are not yet fifty years old and have You seen Abraham? 58Jesus said to them, Truly, truly I say to you, Before Abraham was (came into being), I am. 59They took up therefore stones, so that they might cast upon Him; Jesus however hid Himself and went out of the temple, {going through the midst of them and passed by thus.} |
