Amaziah Reigns in Judah
(2 Chronicles 25:1–4)

1In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah became king. 2He was a son of twenty-five years in his reigning, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And the name of His mother was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. 3And he did right in the eyes of YHWH, yet not like David his father. According to all that Joash his father had done, he did.

4However the high places were not taken away; still the people sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

5And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he killed his servants who had struck the king, his father. 6And the sons of those striking he did not kill, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, in which YHWH commanded, saying, “Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, and children shall not be put to death for their fathers; for but a person for his own sin shall be put to death.

7He struck Edom in the Valley of Salt—ten thousand—and he seized Sela by war and called its name Joktheel to this day.

Jehoash Defeats Amaziah
(2 Chronicles 25:17–24)

8Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us cause to be seen our faces.”

9And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife.’ And a beast of the field that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle. 10You have surely struck Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Be honored and stay at home. And why should you stir yourself up in evil so that you will fall—you and Judah with you?”

11And Amaziah would not listen, and Jehoash king of Israel went up. And they cause to be seen their faces—he and Amaziah king of Judah—at Beth-shemesh, which is unto Judah. 12And Judah was defeated by Israel, and they fled, each man to his tent.

13And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, captured Jehoash king of Israel at Beth-shemesh.

And he went in to Jerusalem, and he broke down the wall of Jerusalem, from the Gate of Ephraim to the Gate of the Corner—four hundred cubits. 14And he took all the gold and the silver and all the articles that were found in the house of YHWH and in the treasuries of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges; and he returned to Samaria.

Jeroboam II Succeeds Jehoash in Israel

15And the rest of the acts of Jehoash that he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days of the Kings of Israel?

16And Jehoash rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. And Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.

The Death of Amaziah
(2 Chronicles 25:25–28)

17And Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel. 18And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days of the Kings of Judah?

19And they formed a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. And they sent after him to Lachish, and they killed him there. 20And they lifted him up on the horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.

Azariah Succeeds Amaziah in Judah
(2 Chronicles 26:1–2)

21And all the people of Judah took Azariah— and he was a son of sixteen years—and they made him king instead of his father Amaziah. 22He built Elath and brought it back to Judah after the king rested with his fathers.

Jeroboam II Reigns in Israel

23In the fifth year and tenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel became king in Samaria, forty-one years. 24And he did evil in the eyes of YHWH; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin.

25He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of YHWH, God of Israel, which He had spoken through His servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet who was from Gath-hepher. 26For YHWH saw the affliction of Israel—very bitter—and there was none restrained and none set free, and no helper for Israel. 27And YHWH had not spoken to blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, and He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.

28And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might with which he made war and with which he brought back Damascus and Hamath of Judah into Israel, are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days of the Kings of Israel?

29And Jeroboam rested with his fathers, with the kings of Israel. And Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
