The Place of Sacrifice

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  דַּבֵּ֨ר (Speak) אֶֽל־ (to) אַהֲרֹ֜ן (Aaron), וְאֶל־ (and to) בָּנָ֗יו (his sons), וְאֶל֙ (and to) כָּל־ (all) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), וְאָמַרְתָּ֖ (and you shall say) אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם (to them) זֶ֣ה (this is) הַדָּבָ֔ר (the word) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֥ה (has commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying): 3  אִ֥ישׁ (Any) אִישׁ֙ (man) מִבֵּ֣ית (of the house) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יִשְׁחַ֜ט (slaughters) שׁ֥וֹר (an ox), אוֹ־ (or) כֶ֛שֶׂב (lamb), אוֹ־ (or) עֵ֖ז (goat), בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה (in the camp), א֚וֹ (or) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) יִשְׁחַ֔ט (slaughters it) מִח֖וּץ (outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ (of the camp), 4  וְאֶל־ (and to) פֶּ֜תַח (the door) אֹ֣הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵד֮ (of Meeting) לֹ֣א (not) הֱבִיאוֹ֒ (does bring it) לְהַקְרִ֤יב (to bring it near) קָרְבָּן֙ (as an offering) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (to YHWH) לִפְנֵ֖י (before the face) מִשְׁכַּ֣ן (of the tabernacle) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH)— דָּ֣ם (blood) יֵחָשֵׁ֞ב (shall be reckoned) לָאִ֤ישׁ (to the man) הַהוּא֙ (that) דָּ֣ם (blood) שָׁפָ֔ךְ (has shed), וְנִכְרַ֛ת (and shall be cut off) הָאִ֥ישׁ (man) הַה֖וּא (that) מִקֶּ֥רֶב (from among) עַמּֽוֹ׃ (his people)—

5  לְמַעַן֩ (in order) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) יָבִ֜יאוּ (bring) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel) אֶֽת־ (-) זִבְחֵיהֶם֮ (their sacrifices), אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) הֵ֣ם (they) זֹבְחִים֮ (are sacrificing) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הַשָּׂדֶה֒ (of the field), וֶֽהֱבִיאֻ֣ם (and bring them) לַֽיהוָ֗ה (to YHWH), אֶל־ (to) פֶּ֛תַח (the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֖ד (of Meeting), אֶל־ (to) הַכֹּהֵ֑ן (the priest), וְזָ֨בְח֜וּ (and sacrifice) זִבְחֵ֧י (as sacrifices) שְׁלָמִ֛ים (of peace offerings) לַֽיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) אוֹתָֽם׃ (them). 6  וְזָרַ֨ק (And shall sprinkle) הַכֹּהֵ֤ן (the priest) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּם֙ (the blood) עַל־ (on) מִזְבַּ֣ח (the altar) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) פֶּ֖תַח (at the door) אֹ֣הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), וְהִקְטִ֣יר (and he shall burn) הַחֵ֔לֶב (the fat) לְרֵ֥יחַ (for an aroma) נִיחֹ֖חַ (pleasing) לַיהוָֽה׃ (to YHWH).

7  וְלֹא־ (And not) יִזְבְּח֥וּ (they shall sacrifice) עוֹד֙ (anymore) אֶת־ (-) זִבְחֵיהֶ֔ם (their sacrifices) לַשְּׂעִירִ֕ם (to the goat demons), אֲשֶׁ֛ר (after whom) הֵ֥ם (they) זֹנִ֖ים (have prostituted) אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם (themselves). חֻקַּ֥ת (A statute) עוֹלָ֛ם (everlasting) תִּֽהְיֶה־ (shall be) זֹּ֥את (this) לָהֶ֖ם (for them) לְדֹרֹתָֽם׃ (throughout their generations).

8  וַאֲלֵהֶ֣ם (And to them) תֹּאמַ֔ר (you shall say), אִ֥ישׁ (any) אִישׁ֙ (man) מִבֵּ֣ית (from the house) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), וּמִן־ (and from) הַגֵּ֖ר (the sojourners) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) יָג֣וּר (sojourn) בְּתוֹכָ֑ם (in their midst), אֲשֶׁר־ (who) יַעֲלֶ֥ה (brings near) עֹלָ֖ה (a burnt offering) אוֹ־ (or) זָֽבַח׃ (a sacrifice), 9  וְאֶל־ (and to) פֶּ֜תַח (the door) אֹ֤הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵד֙ (of Meeting) לֹ֣א (not) יְבִיאֶ֔נּוּ (does bring it) לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת (to do) אֹת֖וֹ (it) לַיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH), וְנִכְרַ֛ת (then shall be cut off) הָאִ֥ישׁ (man) הַה֖וּא (that) מֵעַמָּֽיו׃ (from his people).

Laws against Eating Blood

10  וְאִ֨ישׁ (And any) אִ֜ישׁ (man) מִבֵּ֣ית (from the house) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel), וּמִן־ (and from) הַגֵּר֙ (the sojourner) הַגָּ֣ר (who is sojourning) בְּתוֹכָ֔ם (in their midst), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) יֹאכַ֖ל (eats) כָּל־ (any) דָּ֑ם (blood), וְנָתַתִּ֣י (and I will set) פָנַ֗י (My face) בַּנֶּ֙פֶשׁ֙ (against the soul) הָאֹכֶ֣לֶת (who is eating) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּ֔ם (the blood), וְהִכְרַתִּ֥י (and I will cut off) אֹתָ֖הּ (him) מִקֶּ֥רֶב (from among) עַמָּֽהּ׃ (his people). 11  כִּ֣י (For) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (the life) הַבָּשָׂר֮ (of the flesh) בַּדָּ֣ם (in the blood) הִוא֒ (is), וַאֲנִ֞י (and I) נְתַתִּ֤יו (have given it) לָכֶם֙ (to you⁺) עַל־ (upon) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ (the altar) לְכַפֵּ֖ר (to make atonement) עַל־ (upon) נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶ֑ם (your⁺ souls); כִּֽי־ (for) הַדָּ֥ם (the blood) ה֖וּא (it is) בַּנֶּ֥פֶשׁ (by the soul) יְכַפֵּֽר׃ (that makes atonement). 12  עַל־ (Upon) כֵּ֤ן (thus) אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ (I said) לִבְנֵ֣י (to the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), כָּל־ (Every) נֶ֥פֶשׁ (soul) מִכֶּ֖ם (among you⁺) לֹא־ (not) תֹ֣אכַל (shall eat) דָּ֑ם (blood), וְהַגֵּ֛ר (and the sojourner) הַגָּ֥ר (who is sojourning) בְּתוֹכְכֶ֖ם (in your⁺ midst) לֹא־ (not) יֹ֥אכַל (shall eat) דָּֽם׃ס (blood).

13  וְאִ֨ישׁ (And any) אִ֜ישׁ (man) מִבְּנֵ֣י (from the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel), וּמִן־ (and from) הַגֵּר֙ (the sojourner) הַגָּ֣ר (who is sojourning) בְּתוֹכָ֔ם (in your⁺ midst), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יָצ֜וּד (hunts) צֵ֥יד (game) חַיָּ֛ה (living) אוֹ־ (or) ע֖וֹף (bird) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) יֵאָכֵ֑ל (may be eaten), וְשָׁפַךְ֙ (then he shall pour out) אֶת־ (-) דָּמ֔וֹ (its blood) וְכִסָּ֖הוּ (and he shall cover it) בֶּעָפָֽר׃ (with dust). 14  כִּֽי־ (For) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (the soul) כָּל־ (of all) בָּשָׂ֗ר (flesh) דָּמ֣וֹ (its blood); בְנַפְשׁוֹ֮ (in its soul) הוּא֒ (it is). וָֽאֹמַר֙ (And I said) לִבְנֵ֣י (to the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), דַּ֥ם (Blood) כָּל־ (of any) בָּשָׂ֖ר (flesh) לֹ֣א (not) תֹאכֵ֑לוּ (you⁺ shall eat), כִּ֣י (for) נֶ֤פֶשׁ (the soul) כָּל־ (of all) בָּשָׂר֙ (flesh) דָּמ֣וֹ (is its blood); הִ֔וא (-) כָּל־ (all) אֹכְלָ֖יו (who eat it) יִכָּרֵֽת׃ (shall be cut off).

15  וְכָל־ (And any) נֶ֗פֶשׁ (soul) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) תֹּאכַ֤ל (eats) נְבֵלָה֙ (a carcass) וּטְרֵפָ֔ה (or torn thing), בָּאֶזְרָ֖ח (among the native) וּבַגֵּ֑ר (and among the sojourner), וְכִבֶּ֨ס (he shall both wash) בְּגָדָ֜יו (his clothes) וְרָחַ֥ץ (and he shall bathe) בַּמַּ֛יִם (in the water), וְטָמֵ֥א (and he shall be unclean) עַד־ (until) הָעֶ֖רֶב (the evening), וְטָהֵֽר׃ (then he shall be clean). 16  וְאִם֙ (And if) לֹ֣א (not) יְכַבֵּ֔ס (he does wash them) וּבְשָׂר֖וֹ (or his flesh) לֹ֣א (not) יִרְחָ֑ץ (bathe), וְנָשָׂ֖א (and he shall bear) עֲוֺנֽוֹ׃פ (his iniquity).
