Ezekiel’s Call

1  וַיֹּ֖אמֶר (And He said) אֵלָ֑י (to me) בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָם֙ (of man), עֲמֹ֣ד (stand) עַל־ (on) רַגְלֶ֔יךָ (your feet), וַאֲדַבֵּ֖ר (and I will speak) אֹתָֽךְ׃ (to you). 2  וַתָּ֧בֹא (And came) בִ֣י (into me) ר֗וּחַ (the Spirit) כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ (as) דִּבֶּ֣ר (He spoke) אֵלַ֔י (to me) וַתַּעֲמִדֵ֖נִי (and set me) עַל־ (on) רַגְלָ֑י (my feet), וָאֶשְׁמַ֕ע (and I heard) אֵ֖ת (-) מִדַּבֵּ֥ר (the One speaking) אֵלָֽי׃פ (to me).

3  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And He said) אֵלַ֗י (to me) בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָם֙ (of man), שׁוֹלֵ֨חַ (am sending) אֲנִ֤י (I) אֽוֹתְךָ֙ (you) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), אֶל־ (to) גּוֹיִ֥ם (a nation) הַמּוֹרְדִ֖ים (rebellious) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) מָרְדוּ־ (has rebelled) בִ֑י (against Me) הֵ֤מָּה (they) וַאֲבוֹתָם֙ (and their fathers) פָּ֣שְׁעוּ (have transgressed) בִ֔י (against Me) עַד־ (until) עֶ֖צֶם (very) הַיּ֥וֹם (the day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this). 4  וְהַבָּנִ֗ים (And the sons are) קְשֵׁ֤י (hard) פָנִים֙ (of face) וְחִזְקֵי־ (and strong) לֵ֔ב (of heart). אֲנִ֛י (I) שׁוֹלֵ֥חַ (am sending) אוֹתְךָ֖ (you) אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם (to them) וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ (and you shall say) אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (to them) כֹּ֥ה (Thus) אָמַ֖ר (says) אֲדֹנָ֥י (the Lord) יְהֹוִֽה׃ (YHWH).

5  וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ (And they), אִם־ (whether) יִשְׁמְע֣וּ (they hear), וְאִם־ (or whether) יֶחְדָּ֔לוּ (they refuse), כִּ֛י (for) בֵּ֥ית (a house) מְרִ֖י (rebellious) הֵ֑מָּה (they are) וְיָ֣דְע֔וּ (and they will know) כִּ֥י (that) נָבִ֖יא (a prophet) הָיָ֥ה (has been) בְתוֹכָֽם׃פ (in their midst).

6  וְאַתָּ֣ה (And you), בֶן־ (son) אָ֠דָם (of man), אַל־ (do not) תִּירָ֨א (be afraid) מֵהֶ֜ם (of them) וּמִדִּבְרֵיהֶ֣ם (or of their words), אַל־ (not) תִּירָ֗א (should you be afraid) כִּ֣י (if) סָרָבִ֤ים (briers) וְסַלּוֹנִים֙ (and thorns are) אוֹתָ֔ךְ (with you) וְאֶל־ (and among) עַקְרַבִּ֖ים (scorpions); אַתָּ֣ה (you) יוֹשֵׁ֑ב (are sitting) מִדִּבְרֵיהֶ֤ם (of their words), אַל־ (and not) תִּירָא֙ (be afraid) וּמִפְּנֵיהֶ֣ם (of their faces), אַל־ (and not) תֵּחָ֔ת (be dismayed) כִּ֛י (for) בֵּ֥ית (a house) מְרִ֖י (rebellious) הֵֽמָּה׃ (they are). 7  וְדִבַּרְתָּ֤ (And you shall speak) אֶת־ (-) דְּבָרַי֙ (My words) אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (to them) אִֽם־ (whether) יִשְׁמְע֖וּ (they hear), וְאִם־ (or whether) יֶחְדָּ֑לוּ (they refuse); כִּ֥י (for) מְרִ֖י (rebellious) הֵֽמָּה׃פ (they are).

8  וְאַתָּ֣ה (And you), בֶן־ (son) אָדָ֗ם (of man), שְׁמַע֙ (you must hear) אֵ֤ת (-) אֲשֶׁר־ (what) אֲנִי֙ (I) מְדַבֵּ֣ר (am going to say) אֵלֶ֔יךָ (to you) אַל־ (do not) תְּהִי־ (come to be) מֶ֖רִי (rebellious) כְּבֵ֣ית (like this house). הַמֶּ֑רִי (Of rebellion) פְּצֵ֣ה (open) פִ֔יךָ (your mouth), וֶאֱכֹ֕ל (and eat) אֵ֥ת (-) אֲשֶׁר־ (what) אֲנִ֖י (I) נֹתֵ֥ן (am giving) אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ (to you).

9  וָאֶרְאֶ֕ה (And I looked), וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold), יָ֖ד (a hand) שְׁלוּחָ֣ה (was stretched out) אֵלָ֑י (to me) וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold), ב֖וֹ (in it) מְגִלַּת־ (was a scroll) סֵֽפֶר׃ (of a book). 10  וַיִּפְרֹ֤שׂ (And He spread) אוֹתָהּ֙ (it out) לְפָנַ֔י (before my face) וְהִ֥יא (and it) כְתוּבָ֖ה (was written) פָּנִ֣ים (on the face) וְאָח֑וֹר (and on the back), וְכָת֣וּב (and written) אֵלֶ֔יהָ (on it) קִנִ֥ים (were lamentations), וָהֶ֖גֶה (and mourning), וָהִֽי׃ס (and woe).
