Then Job answered and said: | 1But Job answered and said, |
“How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength! | 2How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength? |
How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge! | 3How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is? |
With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you? | 4To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee? |
The dead tremble under the waters and their inhabitants. | 5Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof. |
Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. | 6Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering. |
He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing. | 7He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. |
He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them. | 8He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. |
He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud. | 9He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it. |
He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. | 10He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. |
The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. | 11The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof. |
By his power he stilled the sea; by his understanding he shattered Rahab. | 12He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud. |
By his wind the heavens were made fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. | 13By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. |
Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?” | 14Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand? |
