1And when Ahaz, son of Jotham, and grandson of Uzziah, was king of Judah, Rezin, the king of Syria, and Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, marched up to attack Jerusalem, they could not prevail against it.
2Then the house of David (Judah) was told, “Syria is allied with Ephraim (Israel)”. And the hearts of Ahaz of his people were shaken, like trees of the wood are shaken by the wind.
3Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out now with your son, Shear-jashub, to meet King Ahaz. You, will find him at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, near the highway by the fuller's field;
4And say to him, ‘Take heed, and be calm and do not fear, nor lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood, the fierce anger of Rezin of Syria, Pekah, son of Remaliah.
5Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have plotted evil against you, saying,
6“Let us invade Judah, and capture it for ourselves, and install the son of Tabeel as king of Judah.”
7 But thus says the LORD God, “It shall not stand, nor shall it come to pass!
8For the head of Syria (Aram) is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years Ephraim (Israel) shall be shattered till it is no longer a people.
9The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is no stronger than Pekah, son of Remaliah. If you are not firm in your belief, you will surely not be established.”
10Moreover, the LORD spoke again to Ahaz,
11“Ask a sign of the LORD, your God; ask it whether in the deepest of depth below, or in the highest height above”.
12But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test”.
13And Izaiah said, “Listen well now, O house of David! Is it not enough for you to weary men, but will you try the patience of my God also?
14Therefore the LORD Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.(Matt.1:23)
15Butter and honey shall He eat, when He is old enough to know to reject the evil, and choose the good.
16For before the Child shall know enough to reject the wrong, and choose the right, the land of the two kings that you dread shall be laid waste and forsaken.
17The LORD shall bring upon you, and upon your people, and upon your father's house, a time unlike any since the day that Ephraim broke away from Judah. The LORD shall bring the king of Assyria upon you.”
18And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss (whistle) for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
19And they shall come, and settle, all of them, in the steep ravines, and in the crevices in the rocks, and on all thornbushes.
20In the same day shall the LORD use a razor hired from beyond the river, namely, the king of Assyria, to shave the hair of your head, your feet; and shall consume your beard – everything: your crops and people.
21And in that day, a farmer shall be fortunate to be able to feed a young cow, and two sheep.
22And, for the abundance of milk that they give, he shall eat butter; for everyone that is left in the land shall eat butter and honey.
23And in that day, that in every place where there had been a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels of silver, there shall only be briers and thorns.
24Hunters with bows and arrows shall come there, because all the land is just briers and thorns.
