The one who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will never again leave it. Upon him I will write the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God (the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from My God), and My new name. The one who overcomesBelievers overcome by persevering in faith through trials, resisting compromise, and holding fast to Christ. Their victory rests first in Jesus Christ, who overcame the world through His death and resurrection (John 16:33; 1 John 5:4–5). The promise continues the calls to overcome given to each of the seven churches, including Philadelphia’s call to hold firmly to what it had received.
