"You are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, and after Me none will come. “You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD,In the setting of Isaiah’s courtroom challenge to the nations and their idols, Israel stands as the people who have seen the LORD act in history. Their deliverance from Egypt, preservation in the wilderness, possession of the land, and promised restoration from exile testify that the God of Israel alone speaks beforehand and accomplishes His purposes. Act 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes… “and My servant whom I have chosen, Israel’s calling rested on God’s gracious election rather than national greatness or merit. As the LORD’s servant, Israel was entrusted with His covenant, law, and promises so that the nations might see His holiness and wisdom. Israel’s calling also points forward to the faithful Servant, the Messiah, who would fulfill perfectly what Israel repeatedly failed to accomplish. Isa 42:1 Here is My Servant, whom I uphold, My Chosen One,… so that you may consider and believe Me and understand that I am He. God’s mighty works were intended to bring His people beyond mere knowledge of events into trust, understanding, and worship. The LORD reveals Himself as the living God who alone governs history, keeps covenant, saves His people, and remains the same through every generation. Israel’s surrounding nations fashioned idols from wood, metal, and stone, but no crafted image could speak, foretell, deliver, or rule over the course of nations. Isa 44:6 Thus says the LORD, the King and Redeemer of Israel… and after Me none will come. The LORD has no predecessor, rival, or successor. His reign cannot be displaced by changing empires, false gods, or human powers. His eternal sovereignty gives His people confidence that the God who redeemed them in the past will remain faithful to His saving purposes.
