1And when Jabin, king of Hazor, heard of this, he sent to Jobab, king of Madon, to the kings of Shimron and Achshaph, 2And to the kings on the north of the mountains, on the plains south of Chinneroth, in the valley, in the borders of Dor to the west, 3To the Canaanites east and west, the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, and Jebusites in the hill country, and to the Hivites under Mount Hermon in the land of Mizpah. 4And they came out with all their armies, men as numerous as the sand on the sea shore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots. 5And when all these kings had joined forces, they came and camped at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel. 6And the LORD said to Joshua, “Have no fear of them; for about this time tomorrow I will deliver them all, slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots.” 7So Joshua and all his men of war came and attacked them suddenly, by the waters of Merom. 8And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel; and they killed many, and chased the rest to greater Sidon, to Misrephoth-maim, and to the valley of Mizpah eastward; where they slew them until none remained. 9And Joshua did to them as the LORD said - he hamstrung their horses, and burned their chariots. 10And then Joshua turned back, and captured Hazor, and killed its king with the sword; for Hazor had headed this coalition of kingdoms. 11And they killed all that were there with the sword, leaving none that breathed; there were no survivors: and he set fire to and burned Hazor. 12And Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, along with their kings, and slew them with swords, utterly destroying them, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded. 13But Joshua did not burn any of the other cities that Israel captured; only Hazor did they burn. 14And Israel took all the spoil of those other cities, as well as the cattle and the children; but every man they killed with the sword until none were left alive. 15Joshua did what the LORD had commanded Moses, His servant, and as Moses had commanded Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses. 16So Joshua conquered all that region - the hills, all the Negev (south country), all the land of Goshen, the valley, plain, and the mountains and valleys of Israel, the Galilean foothills, 17From Mount Halak, that rises toward Seir, to Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon; and he captured and killed all their kings. 18Joshua waged war with all those kings for a long time. 19There was not a city that made a peace treaty with the Israelites, except for the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; all others were taken in battle. 20For it was of the LORD Who hardened their hearts, so that they would come against Israel in battle, that he (Joshua) might utterly destroy them, with no mercy - exterminating them, as the LORD had commanded Moses. 21And at that time Joshua came, and exterminated the Anakim (the Anakites, a race of giants) from the mountains: from Hebron, Debir, Anab, from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. 22There were none of the Anakim left in the land of the Israelites, except some that remained in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod. 23So Joshua took the entire land, just as the LORD had told Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. And the land rested from war. Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser. Used by Permission. All rights Reserved. Bible Hub |
