1 THE vision of Obadiah: Thus says the LORD God concerning Edom: We have heard a rumor from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle. 2 Behold, I have made you the least among the nations; you are greatly despised. 3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; who says in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? 4 Though you rise high like the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, thence I will bring you down, says the LORD. 5 If thieves come to you or robbers by night, how could you have remained silent till they had stolen enough? Or if grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings? 6 How Esau is searched out! how are his hidden things sought out! 7 They have driven you to the border; all the men of your confederacy have deceived you and prevailed against you; the men who were at peace with you and who ate your bread have laid an ambush for you, because Esau has no understanding in him. 8 In that day, says the LORD, I will destroy the wise men out of Edom, and the men of understanding out of the mount of Esau. 9 And your mighty men, O Teman, shall be plundered, so that every man from mount Esau may perish. 10 Because of the slaughter and because of the violence against your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off for ever.
