1 SO he went up into the boat, and crossed over and came to his own city. 2 And they brought to him a paralytic, lying on a quilt-bed; and Jesus saw their faith, and he said to the paralytic, Have courage, my son; your sins have been forgiven. 3 Some of the scribes said among themselves, This man blasphemes. 4 But Jesus knew their thoughts; so he said to them, Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier to say, Your sins have been forgiven, or to say, Arise and walk? 6 But that you might know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins, then he said to the paralytic, Arise, take up your quilt-bed, and go to your home. 7 And he rose up and went to his home. 8 But when the crowds saw it, they were frightened, and they glorified God, because he had given such power as this to men. 9 And as Jesus passed from that place, he saw a man whose name was Matthew, sitting in the custom house, and he said to him, Follow me; and he got up and went after him. 10 And while they were guests in the house, a great many publicans and sinners came, and they sat as guests with Jesus and with his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why does your master eat with publicans and sinners?
