1 And it came to pass on the second-sabbath after the first, that as He was passing through the corn-fields, his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and rubbed them in their hands and ate them. 2 And some of the pharisees said to them, Why do ye do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath-days? 3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read what David did, when he himself was hungry and those that were with him? how he went into the house of God, 4 and did take and eat the shew-bread, and gave also to his attendants, which it is not lawful for any to eat but the priests. 5 And He said unto them, the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath. 6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that He went into a synagogue and taught; and there was a man there, whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and pharisees watched Him to see if He would work a cure on the sabbath: that they might find an accusation against Him. 8 But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man that had the withered hand, Rise, and stand in the midst: and he rose up and stood forth. 9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing, Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to let it be lost? 10 And looking round upon them all, He said to the man, Stretch out thine hand: and he did so, and his hand was made as sound as the other. 11 And they were filled with confusion: and consulted together, what they might do to Jesus. 12 And in those days He went out to a mountain to pray, and He continued all night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, He called his disciples to Him: and chose out twelve from among them, whom He also named his apostles: Luke 6:1-13, Worsley New Testament.
