1 And it came to pass, on the first sabbath after the second day of the feast, that he was going through the fields of grain; and his disciples pulled the ears and ate, rubbing them in their hands. 2 And some of the Pharisees said to them: Why are you doing what it is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? 3 And Jesus answered and said to them: Have you not read even that which David did, when he was hungry himself, and those who were with him, 4 that he entered the house of God, and took the loaves of the presence, and ate, and gave to those also who were with him, which it is not lawful, except for the priests alone, to eat? 5 And he said to them: The Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. 6 And it came to pass, on another sabbath, that he entered the synagogue and taught; and a man was there, whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched closely, whether he would heal on the sabbath-day, that they might find an accusation against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man that had the withered hand: Rise, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose, and stood. 9 Then Jesus said to them, I will ask you a question: Which is lawful on the sabbath, to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? 10 And looking round upon them all, he said to him: Stretch forth your hand. And he did so; and his hand was restored like the other. 11 But they were filled with madness, and began to consult with one another what they should do to Jesus. 12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, he called to him his disciples; and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles: Luke 6:1-13, Anderson New Testament.
