1	Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior].	There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.	Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
2	For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death.	For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.	because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
3	For what the Law could not do [that is, overcome sin and remove its penalty, its power] being weakened by the flesh [man’s nature without the Holy Spirit], God did: He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful man as an offering for sin. And He condemned sin in the flesh [subdued it and overcame it in the person of His own Son],	For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,	For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,
4	so that the [righteous and just] requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not live our lives in the ways of the flesh [guided by worldliness and our sinful nature], but [live our lives] in the ways of the Spirit [guided by His power].	in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.	in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5	For those who are living according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh [which gratify the body], but those who are living according to the Spirit, [set their minds on] the things of the Spirit [His will and purpose].	For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.	Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
6	Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever];	For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.	The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
7	the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot,	For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.	The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
8	and those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God.	Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.	Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
9	However, you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him [and is not a child of God].	You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.	You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
10	If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides].	But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.	But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
11	And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.	If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.	And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
12	So then, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation, but not to our flesh [our human nature, our worldliness, our sinful capacity], to live according to the [impulses of the] flesh [our nature without the Holy Spirit]—	So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.	Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.
13	for if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever.	For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.	For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
14	For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.	For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.	For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
15	For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!”	For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”	The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
16	The Spirit Himself testifies and confirms together with our spirit [assuring us] that we [believers] are children of God.	The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,	The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
17	And if [we are His] children, [then we are His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His spiritual blessing and inheritance], if indeed we share in His suffering so that we may also share in His glory.	and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.	Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
18	For I consider [from the standpoint of faith] that the sufferings of the present life are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us!	For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.	I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
19	For [even the whole] creation [all nature] waits eagerly for the children of God to be revealed.	For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.	For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
20	For the creation was subjected to frustration and futility, not willingly [because of some intentional fault on its part], but by the will of Him who subjected it, in hope	For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope	For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope
21	that the creation itself will also be freed from its bondage to decay [and gain entrance] into the glorious freedom of the children of God.	that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.	that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
22	For we know that the whole creation has been moaning together as in the pains of childbirth until now.	For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.	We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
23	And not only this, but we too, who have the first fruits of the Spirit [a joyful indication of the blessings to come], even we groan inwardly, as we wait eagerly for [the sign of] our adoption as sons—the redemption and transformation of our body [at the resurrection].	And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.	Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.
24	For in this hope we were saved [by faith]. But hope [the object of] which is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he already sees?	For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?	For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?
25	But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait eagerly for it with patience and composure.	But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.	But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
26	In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.	Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.	In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
27	And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes [before God] on behalf of God’s people in accordance with God’s will.	And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.	And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
28	And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.	And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.	And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
29	For those whom He foreknew [and loved and chose beforehand], He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son [and ultimately share in His complete sanctification], so that He would be the firstborn [the most beloved and honored] among many believers.	For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.	For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
30	And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity].	And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.	And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
31	What then shall we say to all these things? If God is for us, who can be [successful] against us?	What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?	What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32	He who did not spare [even] His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?	He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?	He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
33	Who will bring any charge against God’s elect (His chosen ones)? It is God who justifies us [declaring us blameless and putting us in a right relationship with Himself].	Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.	Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.
34	Who is the one who condemns us? Christ Jesus is the One who died [to pay our penalty], and more than that, who was raised [from the dead], and who is at the right hand of God interceding [with the Father] for us.	Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.	Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
35	Who shall ever separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?	Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?	Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
36	Just as it is written and forever remains written, “FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE REGARDED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER.”	As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”	As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37	Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us].	No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.	No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38	For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers,	For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,	For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
39	nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.	nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.	neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
