1 By David. O LORD, I come before you in prayer. To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. Of David. In you, LORD my God, I put my trust.
2 My God, I trust in you. Please do not let me be humiliated; do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me! O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated. Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted and humiliated. Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
4 Make me understand your ways, O LORD! Teach me your paths! Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths.
5 Guide me into your truth and teach me. For you are the God who delivers me; on you I rely all day long. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
6 Remember your compassionate and faithful deeds, O LORD, for you have always acted in this manner. Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
7 Do not hold against me the sins of my youth or my rebellious acts! Because you are faithful to me, extend to me your favor, O LORD! Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD! Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, LORD, are good.
8 The LORD is both kind and fair; that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live. Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 May he show the humble what is right! May he teach the humble his way! He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
10 The LORD always proves faithful and reliable to those who follow the demands of his covenant. All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your reputation, O LORD, forgive my sin, because it is great. For your name’s sake, O LORD, pardon my guilt, for it is great. For the sake of your name, LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
12 The LORD shows his faithful followers the way they should live. Who is the man who fears the LORD? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. Who, then, are those who fear the LORD? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.
13 They experience his favor; their descendants inherit the land. His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. They will spend their days in prosperity, and their descendants will inherit the land.
14 The LORD's loyal followers receive his guidance, and he reveals his covenantal demands to them. The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
15 I continually look to the LORD for help, for he will free my feet from the enemy's net. My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.
16 Turn toward me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and oppressed! Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Deliver me from my distress; rescue me from my suffering! The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.
18 See my pain and suffering! Forgive all my sins! Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins. Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
19 Watch my enemies, for they outnumber me; they hate me and want to harm me. Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me. See how numerous are my enemies and how fiercely they hate me!
20 Protect me and deliver me! Please do not let me be humiliated, for I have taken shelter in you! Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and godliness protect me, for I rely on you! May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you. May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, LORD, is in you.
22 O God, rescue Israel from all their distress! Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles. Deliver Israel, O God, from all their troubles!
