1 Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing? Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against Yahweh, and against his Anointed, saying, The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let’s break their bonds apart, and cast their cords from us.” “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”
4 He who sits in the heavens will laugh. The Lord will have them in derision. He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them in his wrath: Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion.” “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
7 I will tell of the decree: Yahweh said to me, “You are my son. Today I have become your father. I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. I will proclaim the LORD’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.
8 Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10 Now therefore be wise, you kings. Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve Yahweh with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Give sincere homage to the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish on the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
