1 Why have the Gentiles raged, and the people devised vain things? Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, against the Lord and against his Christ. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bonds asunder: and let us cast away their yoke from us. “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”
4 He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: and the Lord shall deride them. He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, and trouble them in his rage. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion his holy mountain, preaching his commandment. “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
7 The Lord hath said to me: Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. I will proclaim the LORD’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.
8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
9 Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, and shalt break them in pieces like a potter's vessel. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10 And now, O ye kings, understand: receive instruction, you that judge the earth. Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: and rejoice unto him with trembling. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you perish from the just way. When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, blessed are all they that trust in him. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
