1 By David. The LORD, my protector, deserves praise--the one who trains my hands for battle, and my fingers for war, Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; Of David. Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.
2 who loves me and is my stronghold, my refuge and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take shelter, who makes nations submit to me. he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. 3 O LORD, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should be concerned about them? O LORD, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? LORD, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?
4 People are like a vapor, their days like a shadow that disappears. Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow.
5 O LORD, make the sky sink and come down! Touch the mountains and make them smolder! Bow your heavens, O LORD, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke! Part your heavens, LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke.
6 Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them! Flash forth the lightning and scatter them; send out your arrows and rout them! Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy; shoot your arrows and rout them.
7 Reach down from above! 11 Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, who speak lies, and make false promises. Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood. deliver me; rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.
12 Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace. May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown, our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace; Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
13 Our storehouses will be full, providing all kinds of food. Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill our pastures. may our granaries be full, providing all kinds of produce; may our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields; Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields;
14 Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares. may our cattle be heavy with young, suffering no mishap or failure in bearing; may there be no cry of distress in our streets! our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets.
15 How blessed are the people who experience these things! How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD! Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall! Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD! Blessed is the people of whom this is true; blessed is the people whose God is the LORD.
