If it had not been that the Lord was with us, let Israel now say: If it had not been the LORD who was on our side— let Israel now say— A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side— let Israel say—
If it had not been that the Lord was with us, When men rose up against us if it had not been the LORD who was on our side when people rose up against us, if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us,
perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us;
perhaps the waters had swallowed us up. then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,
Our soul hath passed through a torrent: perhaps our soul had passed through a water insupportable. then over us would have gone the raging waters. the raging waters would have swept us away.
Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us to be a prey to their teeth. Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
Our soul hath been delivered as a sparrow out of the snare of the followers. The snare is broken, and we are delivered. We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
