A Song of the Ascents. To YHWH, in the distress for me, I cried out, and He answered me. In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. A song of ascents. I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me.
O YHWH, deliver my soul from a lip of falsehood, from a tongue of deceit! Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. Save me, LORD, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.
What will He give to you, or what will He add to you, O tongue of deceit? What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? What will he do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue?
The sharpened arrows of a mighty one, with the burning coals of broom trees! A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree! He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush.
Woe to me for I have sojourned in Mesech; I have dwelt among the tents of Kedar! Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar!
Too much has dwelt my soul with the one hating peace! Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. Too long have I lived among those who hate peace.
I am peace, and when I speak, they are for war. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war! I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
