1 Not unto us, O Jehovah, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth's sake. Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.
2 Wherefore should the nations say, Where then is their God? Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?”
3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he pleased. Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases. Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands: Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands.
5 They have a mouth, and they speak not; eyes have they, and they see not; They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.
6 They have ears, and they hear not; a nose have they, and they smell not; They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.
7 They have hands, and they handle not; feet have they, and they walk not; they give no sound through their throat. They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
8 They that make them are like unto them, -- every one that confideth in them. Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.
9 O Israel, confide thou in Jehovah: he is their help and their shield. O Israel, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield. All you Israelites, trust in the LORD— he is their help and shield.
10 House of Aaron, confide in Jehovah: he is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield. House of Aaron, trust in the LORD— he is their help and shield.
11 Ye that fear Jehovah, confide in Jehovah: he is their help and their shield. You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield. You who fear him, trust in the LORD— he is their help and shield.
12 Jehovah hath been mindful of us: he will bless, he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron; The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron; The LORD remembers us and will bless us: He will bless his people Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron,
13 He will bless them that fear Jehovah, both the small and the great. he will bless those who fear the LORD, both the small and the great. he will bless those who fear the LORD— small and great alike.
14 Jehovah will add unto you more, unto you and unto your children. May the LORD give you increase, you and your children! May the LORD cause you to flourish, both you and your children.
15 Ye are blessed of Jehovah, who made the heavens and the earth. May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth! May you be blessed by the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
16 The heavens are the heavens of Jehovah, but the earth hath he given to the children of men. The heavens are the LORD’s heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man. The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to mankind.
17 The dead praise not Jah, neither any that go down into silence; The dead do not praise the LORD, nor do any who go down into silence. It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to the place of silence;
18 But we will bless Jah from this time forth and for evermore. Hallelujah! But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the LORD! it is we who extol the LORD, both now and forevermore. Praise the LORD.
