1 <V 113:1>Alleluia. At the departure of Israel from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a barbarous people: When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
2 <V 113:2>Judea was made his sanctuary; Israel was made his power. Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
3 <V 113:3>The sea looked, and it fled. The Jordan was turned back again. The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back;
4 <V 113:4>The mountains exulted like rams, and the hills like lambs among the sheep. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs.
5 <V 113:5>What happened to you, O sea, so that you fled, and to you, O Jordan, so that you were turned back again? What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
6 <V 113:6>What happened to you, O mountains, so that you exulted like rams, and to you, O hills, so that you exulted like lambs among the sheep? O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs?
7 <V 113:7>Before the face of the Lord, the earth was moved, before the face of the God of Jacob. Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 <V 113:8>He converted the rock into pools of water, and the cliff into fountains of waters. who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water. who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.
