1	וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃	The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,	The LORD said to Moses,
2	שְׁלַח־ לְךָ֣ אֲנָשִׁ֗ים וְיָתֻ֙רוּ֙ אֶת־ אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנַ֔עַן אֲשֶׁר־ אֲנִ֥י נֹתֵ֖ן לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אִ֣ישׁ אֶחָד֩ אִ֨ישׁ אֶחָ֜ד לְמַטֵּ֤ה אֲבֹתָיו֙ תִּשְׁלָ֔חוּ כֹּ֖ל נָשִׂ֥יא בָהֶֽם׃	“Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel. From each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a chief among them.”	“Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.”
3	וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח אֹתָ֥ם מֹשֶׁ֛ה מִמִּדְבַּ֥ר פָּארָ֖ן עַל־ פִּ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כֻּלָּ֣ם אֲנָשִׁ֔ים רָאשֵׁ֥י בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הֵֽמָּה׃	So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel.	So at the LORD’s command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.
4	וְאֵ֖לֶּה שְׁמוֹתָ֑ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה רְאוּבֵ֔ן שַׁמּ֖וּעַ בֶּן־ זַכּֽוּר׃	And these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;	These are their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zakkur;
5	לְמַטֵּ֣ה שִׁמְע֔וֹן שָׁפָ֖ט בֶּן־ חוֹרִֽי׃	from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;	from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;
6	לְמַטֵּ֣ה יְהוּדָ֔ה כָּלֵ֖ב בֶּן־ יְפֻנֶּֽה׃	from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;	from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
7	לְמַטֵּ֣ה יִשָּׂשכָ֔ר יִגְאָ֖ל בֶּן־ יוֹסֵֽף׃	from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;	from the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;
8	לְמַטֵּ֥ה אֶפְרָ֖יִם הוֹשֵׁ֥עַ בִּן־ נֽוּן׃	from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;	from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;
9	לְמַטֵּ֣ה בִנְיָמִ֔ן פַּלְטִ֖י בֶּן־ רָפֽוּא׃	from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;	from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;
10	לְמַטֵּ֣ה זְבוּלֻ֔ן גַּדִּיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ סוֹדִֽי׃	from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;	from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;
11	לְמַטֵּ֥ה יוֹסֵ֖ף לְמַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה גַּדִּ֖י בֶּן־ סוּסִֽי׃	from the tribe of Joseph (that is, from the tribe of Manasseh), Gaddi the son of Susi;	from the tribe of Manasseh (a tribe of Joseph), Gaddi son of Susi;
12	לְמַטֵּ֣ה דָ֔ן עַמִּיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ גְּמַלִּֽי׃	from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;	from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli;
13	לְמַטֵּ֣ה אָשֵׁ֔ר סְת֖וּר בֶּן־ מִיכָאֵֽל׃	from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;	from the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;
14	לְמַטֵּ֣ה נַפְתָּלִ֔י נַחְבִּ֖י בֶּן־ וָפְסִֽי׃	from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;	from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi;
15	לְמַטֵּ֣ה גָ֔ד גְּאוּאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ מָכִֽי׃	from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.	from the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Maki.
16	אֵ֚לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־ שָׁלַ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֖ה לָת֣וּר אֶת־ הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּקְרָ֥א מֹשֶׁ֛ה לְהוֹשֵׁ֥עַ בִּן־ נ֖וּן יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃	These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.	These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)
17	וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח אֹתָם֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה לָת֖וּר אֶת־ אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם עֲל֥וּ זֶה֙ בַּנֶּ֔גֶב וַעֲלִיתֶ֖ם אֶת־ הָהָֽר׃	Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said to them, “Go up into the Negeb and go up into the hill country,	When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, “Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country.
18	וּרְאִיתֶ֥ם אֶת־ הָאָ֖רֶץ מַה־ הִ֑וא וְאֶת־ הָעָם֙ הַיֹּשֵׁ֣ב עָלֶ֔יהָ הֶחָזָ֥ק הוּא֙ הֲרָפֶ֔ה הַמְעַ֥ט ה֖וּא אִם־ רָֽב׃	and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many,	See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.
19	וּמָ֣ה הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ הוּא֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב בָּ֔הּ הֲטוֹבָ֥ה הִ֖וא אִם־ רָעָ֑ה וּמָ֣ה הֶֽעָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁר־ הוּא֙ יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בָּהֵ֔נָּה הַבְּמַֽחֲנִ֖ים אִ֥ם בְּמִבְצָרִֽים׃	and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds,	What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified?
20	וּמָ֣ה הָ֠אָרֶץ הַשְּׁמֵנָ֨ה הִ֜וא אִם־ רָזָ֗ה הֲיֵֽשׁ־ בָּ֥הּ עֵץ֙ אִם־ אַ֔יִן וְהִ֨תְחַזַּקְתֶּ֔ם וּלְקַחְתֶּ֖ם מִפְּרִ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ וְהַ֨יָּמִ֔ים יְמֵ֖י בִּכּוּרֵ֥י עֲנָבִֽים׃	and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there are trees in it or not. Be of good courage and bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.	How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees in it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land.” (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)
