1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham: The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:
2 Abraham begat Isaac, and Isaac begat Jacob, and Jacob begat Judah and his brothers. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
3 And Judah begat Perez and Zerah out of Tamar, and Perez begat Hezron, and Hezron begat Aram. and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram,
4 And Aram begat Amminadab, and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon. and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,
5 And Salmon begat Boaz out of Rahab, and Boaz begat Obed out of Ruth, and Obed begat Jesse, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse,
6 and Jesse begat David the king. And: David begat Solomon out of her who was of Uriah, and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
7 and Solomon begat Rehoboam, and Rehoboam begat Abijah, and Abijah begat Asaph. and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,
8 And Asaph begat Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat begat Joram, and Joram begat Uzziah. and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
9 And Uzziah begat Jotham, and Jotham begat Ahaz, and Ahaz begat Hezekiah. and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
10 And Hezekiah begat Manasseh, and Manasseh begat Amos, and Amos begat Josiah, and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah,
11 and Josiah begat Jeconiah and his brothers at the deportation to Babylon. and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12 And after the deportation to Babylon: Jeconiah begat Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begat Zerubbabel, And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
13 and Zerubbabel begat Abiud, and Abiud begat Eliakim, and Eliakim begat Azor. and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,
14 And Azor begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Achim, and Achim begat Eliud. and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud,
15 And Eliud begat Eleazar, and Eleazar begat Matthan, and Matthan begat Jacob, and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,
16 and Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, out of whom was begotten Jesus, the One being called Christ. and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.
17 Therefore all the generations from Abraham until David were fourteen generations, and from David until the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon until the Christ fourteen generations. So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother Mary, having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together was found having in womb from the Holy Spirit. Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
19 And Joseph her husband, being righteous and not willing to make an example of her, resolved to send her away secretly. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20 But on his having pondered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph son of David, you should not be afraid to receive Mary as your wife, for that having been begotten in her is from the Holy Spirit. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
21 And she will bear a Son, and you will call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 And all this has come to pass so that it might be fulfilled, that having been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin will have in womb, and she will bear a son, and they will call His name Immanuel,” which is, being translated, “God with us.” “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
24 And Joseph, having been awoken from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and received his wife. When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
25 And he did not know her until she bore a Son, and he called His name Jesus. but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
