7 Ἤκουσεν δὲ Ἡρῴδης ὁ τετραάρχης τὰ γινόμενα πάντα καὶ διηπόρει διὰ τὸ λέγεσθαι ὑπό τινων ὅτι Ἰωάννης ἠγέρθη ἐκ νεκρῶν Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed because some were saying that John had been raised from the dead,
8 ὑπό τινων δὲ ὅτι Ἠλίας ἐφάνη ἄλλων δὲ ὅτι προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen. others that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life.
9 Εἶπεν δὲ ‹ὁ› Ἡρῴδης Ἰωάννην ἐγὼ ἀπεκεφάλισα τίς δέ ἐστιν οὗτος περὶ οὗ ἀκούω τοιαῦτα καὶ ἐζήτει ἰδεῖν αὐτόν Herod said, “John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” And he sought to see him. But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him.
