Then the LORD said to Moses, | The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | The LORD said to Moses, |
“Speak to the Israelites and say to them, ‘When someone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the value of persons, | “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, If anyone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the valuation of persons, | “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate a person to the LORD by giving the equivalent value, |
if the valuation concerns a male from twenty to sixty years of age, then your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel. | then the valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. | set the value of a male between the ages of twenty and sixty at fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel; |
Or if it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels. | If the person is a female, the valuation shall be thirty shekels. | for a female, set her value at thirty shekels; |
And if the person is from five to twenty years of age, then your valuation for the male shall be twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels. | If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, the valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels. | for a person between the ages of five and twenty, set the value of a male at twenty shekels and of a female at ten shekels; |
Now if the person is from one month to five years of age, then your valuation for the male shall be five shekels of silver, and for the female three shekels of silver. | If the person is from a month old up to five years old, the valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female the valuation shall be three shekels of silver. | for a person between one month and five years, set the value of a male at five shekels of silver and that of a female at three shekels of silver; |
And if the person is sixty years of age or older, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels for the male and ten shekels for the female. | And if the person is sixty years old or over, then the valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels. | for a person sixty years old or more, set the value of a male at fifteen shekels and of a female at ten shekels. |
But if the one making the vow is too poor to pay the valuation, he is to present the person before the priest, who shall set the value according to what the one making the vow can afford. | And if someone is too poor to pay the valuation, then he shall be made to stand before the priest, and the priest shall value him; the priest shall value him according to what the vower can afford. | If anyone making the vow is too poor to pay the specified amount, the person being dedicated is to be presented to the priest, who will set the value according to what the one making the vow can afford. |
If he vows an animal that may be brought as an offering to the LORD, any such animal given to the LORD shall be holy. | “If the vow is an animal that may be offered as an offering to the LORD, all of it that he gives to the LORD is holy. | “’If what they vowed is an animal that is acceptable as an offering to the LORD, such an animal given to the LORD becomes holy. |
He must not replace it or exchange it, either good for bad or bad for good. But if he does substitute one animal for another, both that animal and its substitute will be holy. | He shall not exchange it or make a substitute for it, good for bad, or bad for good; and if he does in fact substitute one animal for another, then both it and the substitute shall be holy. | They must not exchange it or substitute a good one for a bad one, or a bad one for a good one; if they should substitute one animal for another, both it and the substitute become holy. |
But if the vow involves any of the unclean animals that may not be brought as an offering to the LORD, the animal must be presented before the priest. | And if it is any unclean animal that may not be offered as an offering to the LORD, then he shall stand the animal before the priest, | If what they vowed is a ceremonially unclean animal—one that is not acceptable as an offering to the LORD—the animal must be presented to the priest, |
The priest shall set its value, whether high or low; as the priest values it, the price will be set. | and the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall be. | who will judge its quality as good or bad. Whatever value the priest then sets, that is what it will be. |
If, however, the owner decides to redeem the animal, he must add a fifth to its value. | But if he wishes to redeem it, he shall add a fifth to the valuation. | If the owner wishes to redeem the animal, a fifth must be added to its value. |
Now if a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, then the priest shall value it either as good or bad. The price will stand just as the priest values it. | “When a man dedicates his house as a holy gift to the LORD, the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand. | “’If anyone dedicates their house as something holy to the LORD, the priest will judge its quality as good or bad. Whatever value the priest then sets, so it will remain. |
But if he who consecrated his house redeems it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it will belong to him. | And if the donor wishes to redeem his house, he shall add a fifth to the valuation price, and it shall be his. | If the one who dedicates their house wishes to redeem it, they must add a fifth to its value, and the house will again become theirs. |
If a man consecrates to the LORD a parcel of his land, then your valuation shall be proportional to the seed required for it—fifty shekels of silver for every homer of barley seed. | “If a man dedicates to the LORD part of the land that is his possession, then the valuation shall be in proportion to its seed. A homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver. | “’If anyone dedicates to the LORD part of their family land, its value is to be set according to the amount of seed required for it—fifty shekels of silver to a homer of barley seed. |
If he consecrates his field during the Year of Jubilee, the price will stand according to your valuation. | If he dedicates his field from the year of jubilee, the valuation shall stand, | If they dedicate a field during the Year of Jubilee, the value that has been set remains. |
But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest is to calculate the price in proportion to the years left until the next Year of Jubilee, so that your valuation will be reduced. | but if he dedicates his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall calculate the price according to the years that remain until the year of jubilee, and a deduction shall be made from the valuation. | But if they dedicate a field after the Jubilee, the priest will determine the value according to the number of years that remain until the next Year of Jubilee, and its set value will be reduced. |
And if the one who consecrated the field decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it shall belong to him. | And if he who dedicates the field wishes to redeem it, then he shall add a fifth to its valuation price, and it shall remain his. | If the one who dedicates the field wishes to redeem it, they must add a fifth to its value, and the field will again become theirs. |
If, however, he does not redeem the field, or if he has sold it to another man, it may no longer be redeemed. | But if he does not wish to redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore. | If, however, they do not redeem the field, or if they have sold it to someone else, it can never be redeemed. |
When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it becomes the property of the priests. | But the field, when it is released in the jubilee, shall be a holy gift to the LORD, like a field that has been devoted. The priest shall be in possession of it. | When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it will become priestly property. |
Now if a man consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased, which is not a part of his own property, | If he dedicates to the LORD a field that he has bought, which is not a part of his possession, | “’If anyone dedicates to the LORD a field they have bought, which is not part of their family land, |
then the priest shall calculate for him the value up to the Year of Jubilee, and the man shall pay the assessed value on that day as a sacred offering to the LORD. | then the priest shall calculate the amount of the valuation for it up to the year of jubilee, and the man shall give the valuation on that day as a holy gift to the LORD. | the priest will determine its value up to the Year of Jubilee, and the owner must pay its value on that day as something holy to the LORD. |
In the Year of Jubilee the field shall return to the one from whom it was bought—the original owner of the land. | In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to whom the land belongs as a possession. | In the Year of Jubilee the field will revert to the person from whom it was bought, the one whose land it was. |
Every valuation will be according to the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel. | Every valuation shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall make a shekel. | Every value is to be set according to the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel. |
But no one may consecrate a firstborn of the livestock, because a firstborn belongs to the LORD. Whether it is an ox or a sheep, it is the LORD’s. | “But a firstborn of animals, which as a firstborn belongs to the LORD, no man may dedicate; whether ox or sheep, it is the LORD’s. | “’No one, however, may dedicate the firstborn of an animal, since the firstborn already belongs to the LORD; whether an ox or a sheep, it is the LORD’s. |
But if it is among the unclean animals, then he may redeem it according to your valuation and add a fifth of its value. If it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation. | And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall buy it back at the valuation, and add a fifth to it; or, if it is not redeemed, it shall be sold at the valuation. | If it is one of the unclean animals, it may be bought back at its set value, adding a fifth of the value to it. If it is not redeemed, it is to be sold at its set value. |
Nothing that a man sets apart to the LORD from all he owns—whether a man, an animal, or his inherited land—can be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD. | “But no devoted thing that a man devotes to the LORD, of anything that he has, whether man or beast, or of his inherited field, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD. | “’But nothing that a person owns and devotes to the LORD—whether a human being or an animal or family land—may be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD. |
No person set apart for destruction may be ransomed; he must surely be put to death. | No one devoted, who is to be devoted for destruction from mankind, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death. | “’No person devoted to destruction may be ransomed; they are to be put to death. |
Thus any tithe from the land, whether from the seed of the land or the fruit of the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD. | “Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the LORD’s; it is holy to the LORD. | “’A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD. |
If a man wishes to redeem part of his tithe, he must add a fifth to its value. | If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. | Whoever would redeem any of their tithe must add a fifth of the value to it. |
Every tenth animal from the herd or flock that passes under the shepherd’s rod will be holy to the LORD. | And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman’s staff, shall be holy to the LORD. | Every tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the LORD. |
He must not inspect whether it is good or bad, and he shall not make any substitution. But if he does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute shall become holy; they cannot be redeemed.’” | One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.” | No one may pick out the good from the bad or make any substitution. If anyone does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute become holy and cannot be redeemed.’” |
These are the commandments that the LORD gave to Moses for the Israelites on Mount Sinai. | These are the commandments that the LORD commanded Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai. | These are the commands the LORD gave Moses at Mount Sinai for the Israelites. |
