And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying, | The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | The LORD said to Moses, |
“Speak to the sons of Israel, and you have said to them: When a man makes a special vow in your valuation of persons to YHWH, | “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, If anyone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the valuation of persons, | “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate a person to the LORD by giving the equivalent value, |
then your valuation has been of the male from a son of twenty years even to a son of sixty years, and your valuation has been fifty shekels of silver by the shekel of the holy place. | then the valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. | set the value of a male between the ages of twenty and sixty at fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel; |
And if it [is] a female, then your valuation has been thirty shekels; | If the person is a female, the valuation shall be thirty shekels. | for a female, set her value at thirty shekels; |
and if from a son of five years even to a son of twenty years, then your valuation of the male has been twenty shekels, and for the female, ten shekels; | If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, the valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels. | for a person between the ages of five and twenty, set the value of a male at twenty shekels and of a female at ten shekels; |
and if from a son of a month even to a son of five years, then your valuation of the male has been five shekels of silver, and for the female your valuation [is] three shekels of silver; | If the person is from a month old up to five years old, the valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female the valuation shall be three shekels of silver. | for a person between one month and five years, set the value of a male at five shekels of silver and that of a female at three shekels of silver; |
and if from a son of sixty years and above, if a male, then your valuation has been fifteen shekels, and for a female, ten shekels. | And if the person is sixty years old or over, then the valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels. | for a person sixty years old or more, set the value of a male at fifteen shekels and of a female at ten shekels. |
And if he is poorer than your valuation, then he has presented himself before the priest, and the priest has valued him; according to that which the hand of him who is vowing reaches, the priest values him. | And if someone is too poor to pay the valuation, then he shall be made to stand before the priest, and the priest shall value him; the priest shall value him according to what the vower can afford. | If anyone making the vow is too poor to pay the specified amount, the person being dedicated is to be presented to the priest, who will set the value according to what the one making the vow can afford. |
And if [it is] a beast of which they bring near [as] an offering to YHWH, all that [one] gives of it to YHWH is holy; | “If the vow is an animal that may be offered as an offering to the LORD, all of it that he gives to the LORD is holy. | “’If what they vowed is an animal that is acceptable as an offering to the LORD, such an animal given to the LORD becomes holy. |
he does not change it nor exchange it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good; and if he really exchanges beast for beast, then it has been [holy] and its exchange is holy. | He shall not exchange it or make a substitute for it, good for bad, or bad for good; and if he does in fact substitute one animal for another, then both it and the substitute shall be holy. | They must not exchange it or substitute a good one for a bad one, or a bad one for a good one; if they should substitute one animal for another, both it and the substitute become holy. |
And if [it is] any unclean beast of which they do not bring near [as] an offering to YHWH, then he has presented the beast before the priest, | And if it is any unclean animal that may not be offered as an offering to the LORD, then he shall stand the animal before the priest, | If what they vowed is a ceremonially unclean animal—one that is not acceptable as an offering to the LORD—the animal must be presented to the priest, |
and the priest has valued it, whether good or bad; according to your valuation, O priest, so it is; | and the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall be. | who will judge its quality as good or bad. Whatever value the priest then sets, that is what it will be. |
and if he really redeems it, then he has added its fifth to your valuation. | But if he wishes to redeem it, he shall add a fifth to the valuation. | If the owner wishes to redeem the animal, a fifth must be added to its value. |
And when a man sanctifies his house [as] a holy thing to YHWH, then the priest has valued it, whether good or bad; as the priest values it so it stands; | “When a man dedicates his house as a holy gift to the LORD, the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand. | “’If anyone dedicates their house as something holy to the LORD, the priest will judge its quality as good or bad. Whatever value the priest then sets, so it will remain. |
and if he who is sanctifying redeems his house, then he has added a fifth of the money of your valuation to it, and it has become his. | And if the donor wishes to redeem his house, he shall add a fifth to the valuation price, and it shall be his. | If the one who dedicates their house wishes to redeem it, they must add a fifth to its value, and the house will again become theirs. |
And if a man sanctifies to YHWH from a field of his possession, then your valuation has been according to its seed—a homer of barley-seed at fifty shekels of silver; | “If a man dedicates to the LORD part of the land that is his possession, then the valuation shall be in proportion to its seed. A homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver. | “’If anyone dedicates to the LORD part of their family land, its value is to be set according to the amount of seed required for it—fifty shekels of silver to a homer of barley seed. |
if he sanctifies his field from the Year of the Jubilee, according to your valuation it stands; | If he dedicates his field from the year of jubilee, the valuation shall stand, | If they dedicate a field during the Year of Jubilee, the value that has been set remains. |
and if he sanctifies his field after the Jubilee, then the priest has reckoned the money to him according to the years which are left, to the Year of the Jubilee, and it has been diminished from your valuation. | but if he dedicates his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall calculate the price according to the years that remain until the year of jubilee, and a deduction shall be made from the valuation. | But if they dedicate a field after the Jubilee, the priest will determine the value according to the number of years that remain until the next Year of Jubilee, and its set value will be reduced. |
And if he really redeems the field—he who is sanctifying it—then he has added a fifth of the money of your valuation to it, and it has been established to him; | And if he who dedicates the field wishes to redeem it, then he shall add a fifth to its valuation price, and it shall remain his. | If the one who dedicates the field wishes to redeem it, they must add a fifth to its value, and the field will again become theirs. |
and if he does not redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it is not redeemed anymore; | But if he does not wish to redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore. | If, however, they do not redeem the field, or if they have sold it to someone else, it can never be redeemed. |
and the field has been, in its going out in the Jubilee, holy to YHWH as a field which is devoted; his possession is for the priest. | But the field, when it is released in the jubilee, shall be a holy gift to the LORD, like a field that has been devoted. The priest shall be in possession of it. | When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it will become priestly property. |
And if he sanctifies a field of his purchase to YHWH, which [is] not of the fields of his possession, | If he dedicates to the LORD a field that he has bought, which is not a part of his possession, | “’If anyone dedicates to the LORD a field they have bought, which is not part of their family land, |
then the priest has reckoned to him the amount of your valuation up to the Year of Jubilee, and he has given your valuation in that day [as] a holy thing to YHWH; | then the priest shall calculate the amount of the valuation for it up to the year of jubilee, and the man shall give the valuation on that day as a holy gift to the LORD. | the priest will determine its value up to the Year of Jubilee, and the owner must pay its value on that day as something holy to the LORD. |
in the Year of the Jubilee the field returns to him from whom he bought it, to him who [has] the possession of the land. | In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to whom the land belongs as a possession. | In the Year of Jubilee the field will revert to the person from whom it was bought, the one whose land it was. |
And all your valuation is by the shekel of the holy place: the shekel is twenty gerahs. | Every valuation shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall make a shekel. | Every value is to be set according to the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel. |
Only, a firstling which is YHWH’s firstling among beasts—no man sanctifies it, whether ox or sheep; it [is] YHWH’s. | “But a firstborn of animals, which as a firstborn belongs to the LORD, no man may dedicate; whether ox or sheep, it is the LORD’s. | “’No one, however, may dedicate the firstborn of an animal, since the firstborn already belongs to the LORD; whether an ox or a sheep, it is the LORD’s. |
And if [from] among the unclean beast, then he has ransomed [it] at your valuation, and he has added its fifth to it; and if it is not redeemed, then it has been sold at your valuation. | And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall buy it back at the valuation, and add a fifth to it; or, if it is not redeemed, it shall be sold at the valuation. | If it is one of the unclean animals, it may be bought back at its set value, adding a fifth of the value to it. If it is not redeemed, it is to be sold at its set value. |
Only, no devoted thing which a man devotes to YHWH of all that he has, of man, and beast, and of the field of his possession, is sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to YHWH. | “But no devoted thing that a man devotes to the LORD, of anything that he has, whether man or beast, or of his inherited field, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD. | “’But nothing that a person owns and devotes to the LORD—whether a human being or an animal or family land—may be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD. |
No devoted thing, which is devoted of man, is ransomed, it is surely put to death. | No one devoted, who is to be devoted for destruction from mankind, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death. | “’No person devoted to destruction may be ransomed; they are to be put to death. |
And all tithe of the land, of the seed of the land, of the fruit of the tree, is YHWH’s; [it is] holy to YHWH. | “Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the LORD’s; it is holy to the LORD. | “’A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD. |
And if a man really redeems [any] of his tithe, he adds its fifth to it. | If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. | Whoever would redeem any of their tithe must add a fifth of the value to it. |
And all the tithe of the herd and of the flock—all that passes by under the rod—the tenth is holy to YHWH; | And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman’s staff, shall be holy to the LORD. | Every tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the LORD. |
he does not inquire between good and bad, nor does he exchange it; and if he really exchanges it, then it has been [holy] and its exchange is holy; it is not redeemed.” | One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.” | No one may pick out the good from the bad or make any substitution. If anyone does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute become holy and cannot be redeemed.’” |
These [are] the commands which YHWH has commanded Moses for the sons of Israel in Mount Sinai. | These are the commandments that the LORD commanded Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai. | These are the commands the LORD gave Moses at Mount Sinai for the Israelites. |
