1 And the heads of the fathers of the Levites came near to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel. Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel
2 And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “YHWH commanded by the hand of Moses to give to us cities to dwell in, with their pasturelands for our livestock.” And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”
3 And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites from their inheritance at the mouth of YHWH these cities and their pasturelands. So by command of the LORD the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance. So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
4 And the lot came out for the clans of the Kohathite, and there were for the sons of Aaron the priest of the Levites, from the tribe of Judah, and from the tribe of the Simeonite, and from the tribe of Benjamin, by lot thirteen cities; The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. The first lot came out for the Kohathites, according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
5 and for the sons of Kohath remaining, out of the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, and from the tribe of Dan, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh, by lot ten cities; And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.
6 and for the sons of Gershon, from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, and from the tribe of Asher, and from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, by lot thirteen cities; The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
7 for the sons of Merari by their clans, from the tribe of Reuben, and from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. The Merarites according to their clans received from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
8 And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites these cities and their pasturelands, as YHWH had commanded by the hand of Moses by lot. These cities and their pasturelands the people of Israel gave by lot to the Levites, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
9 And they gave from the tribe of the sons of Judah, and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon, these cities that are called by name, Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name
10 which were for the sons of Aaron, from the clans of the Kohathite, from the sons of Levi; for theirs was the first lot: which went to the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
11 And they gave to them Kiriath-arba (the father of Anak) that is, Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, and with its pasturelands surrounding it. They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)
12 And the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession. But the fields of the city and its villages had been given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession. But the fields and villages around the city they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.
13 And to the sons of Aaron the priest they gave a city of refuge for the manslayer, Hebron and its pasturelands, and Libnah and its pasturelands, And to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands, Libnah with its pasturelands, So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Libnah,
14 and Jattir and its pasturelands, and Eshtemoa and its pasturelands, Jattir with its pasturelands, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands, Jattir, Eshtemoa,
15 and Holon and its pasturelands, and Debir and its pasturelands, Holon with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands, Holon, Debir,
16 and Ain and its pasturelands, and Juttah and its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh and its pasturelands—nine cities from these two tribes. Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities out of these two tribes; Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands—nine towns from these two tribes.
17 From the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon and its pasturelands, and Geba and its pasturelands, then out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands, And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba,
18 Anathoth and its pasturelands, and Almon and its pasturelands—four cities. Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
19 All the cities of the sons of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities and their pasturelands. The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
20 And for the clans of the sons of Kohath, the Levites remaining of the sons of Kohath, the cities of their lot were even: From the tribe of Ephraim, As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim. The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:
21 and they gave to them a city of refuge for the manslayer, Shechem and its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, and Gezer and its pasturelands, To them were given Shechem, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,
22 and Kibzaim and its pasturelands, and Beth-horon and its pasturelands—four cities. Kibzaim with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands—four cities; Kibzaim and Beth Horon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
23 And from the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh and its pasturelands, Gibbethon and its pasturelands, and out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasturelands, Gibbethon with its pasturelands, Also from the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
24 Aijalon and its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon and its pasturelands—four cities. Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities; Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
25 And from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach and its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon and its pasturelands—two cities. and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities. From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—two towns.
26 All the cities were ten, and their pasturelands, for the clans of the remaining sons of Kohath. The cities of the clans of the rest of the Kohathites were ten in all with their pasturelands. All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
27 And to the sons of Gershon, of the clans of the Levites: From the half-tribe of Manasseh a city of refuge for the manslayer, Golan in Bashan and its pasturelands, and Beeshterah and its pasturelands—two cities. And to the Gershonites, one of the clans of the Levites, were given out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities; The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands—two towns;
28 And from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion and its pasturelands, Daberath and its pasturelands, and out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion, Daberath,
29 Jarmuth and its pasturelands, En-gannim and its pasturelands—four cities. Jarmuth with its pasturelands, En-gannim with its pasturelands—four cities; Jarmuth and En Gannim, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
30 And from the tribe of Asher, Mishal and its pasturelands, Abdon and its pasturelands, and out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Asher, Mishal, Abdon,
31 Helkath and its pasturelands, and Rehob and its pasturelands—four cities. Helkath with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands—four cities; Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
32 And from the tribe of Naphtali, a city of refuge for the manslayer, Kedesh in Galilee and its pasturelands, and Hammoth-dor and its pasturelands, and Kartan and its pasturelands—three cities. and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hammoth-dor with its pasturelands, and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities. from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands—three towns.
33 All the cities of the Gershonite by their clans were thirteen cities and their pasturelands. The cities of the several clans of the Gershonites were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. The total number of towns of the Gershonite clans came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
34 And to the clans of the sons of Merari, the remaining Levites: From the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam and its pasturelands, Kartah and its pasturelands, And to the rest of the Levites, the Merarite clans, were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands, The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah,
35 Dimnah and its pasturelands, Nahalal and its pasturelands—four cities. Dimnah with its pasturelands, Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities; Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
36 And from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer and its pasturelands, and Jahaz and its pasturelands, and out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasturelands, Jahaz with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz,
37 Kedemoth and its pasturelands, and Mephaath and its pasturelands—four cities. Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands—four cities; Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands—four towns;
38 And from the tribe of Gad, a city of refuge for the manslayer, Ramoth in Gilead and its pasturelands, and Mahanaim and its pasturelands, and out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,
39 Heshbon and its pasturelands, Jazer and its pasturelands—in all four cities. Heshbon with its pasturelands, Jazer with its pasturelands—four cities in all. Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasturelands—four towns in all.
40 And all the cities for the sons of Merari by their clans, the remaining of the clans of the Levites, by their lot, were twelve cities. As for the cities of the several Merarite clans, that is, the remainder of the clans of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities. The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.
41 All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the sons of Israel were forty-eight cities and their pasturelands. The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands. The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.
42 These cities were each city and its pasturelands surrounding it. And were all these cities. These cities each had its pasturelands around it. So it was with all these cities. Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
43 And YHWH gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they possessed it and dwelt in it. Thus the LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.
44 And YHWH gave rest to them all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers, and not a man stood against them of all their enemies; all their enemies YHWH delivered into their hands. And the LORD gave them rest on every side just as he had sworn to their fathers. Not one of all their enemies had withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hands. The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands.
45 Not a word failed of any good thing that YHWH had spoken to the house of Israel; everything came to pass. Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass. Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
