1 |Don't be troubled. Believe in God, and believe in me. “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
2 My Father's house has many rooms. If that were not true, would I have told you that I'm going to prepare a place for you? In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again. Then I will bring you into my presence so that you will be where I am. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going.| And you know the way to where I am going.” You know the way to the place where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, |Lord, we don't know where you're going. So how can we know the way?| Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered him, |I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him [through me] and have seen him [in me].| If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said to Jesus, |Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us.| Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus replied, |I have been with all of you for a long time. Don't you know me yet, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I'm telling you doesn't come from me. The Father, who lives in me, does what he wants. Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of the things I do. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.
12 |I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the Father. “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 I will do anything you ask [the Father] in my name so that the Father will be given glory because of the Son. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask me to do something, I will do it. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
15 |If you love me, you will obey my commandments. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. “If you love me, keep my commands.
16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper who will be with you forever. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—
17 That helper is the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him, because it doesn't see or know him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be in you. even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
18 |I will not leave you all alone. I will come back to you. “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. You will live because I live. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me and that I am in you. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
21 Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me. Those who love me will have my Father's love, and I, too, will love them and show myself to them.| Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
22 Judas (not Iscariot) asked Jesus, |Lord, what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?| Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered him, |Those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will go to them and make our home with them. Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
24 A person who doesn't love me doesn't do what I say. I don't make up what you hear me say. What I say comes from the Father who sent me. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25 |I have told you this while I'm still with you. “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. “All this I have spoken while still with you.
26 However, the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
27 |I'm leaving you peace. I'm giving you my peace. I don't give you the kind of peace that the world gives. So don't be troubled or cowardly. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
28 You heard me tell you, 'I'm going away, but I'm coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I'm going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 |I'm telling you this now before it happens. When it does happen, you will believe. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.
30 The ruler of this world has no power over me. But he's coming, so I won't talk with you much longer. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me,
31 However, I want the world to know that I love the Father and that I am doing exactly what the Father has commanded me to do. Get up! We have to leave.| but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here. but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.
