1 The LORD continued his response to Job by saying: And the LORD said to Job: The LORD said to Job:
2 |Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer.| “Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.” “Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!”
3 Then Job replied to the LORD. He said: Then Job answered the LORD and said: Then Job answered the LORD:
4 |I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless. “Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. “I am unworthy—how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth.
5 I spoke once, but I can't answer; I tried a second time, but I won't do so anymore.| I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.” I spoke once, but I have no answer— twice, but I will say no more.”
6 The LORD answered Job from the wind storm and told him: Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm:
7 |Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers! “Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. “Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.
8 Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous? Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right? “Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
9 Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?| Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his? Do you have an arm like God’s, and can your voice thunder like his?
10 |When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity, “Adorn yourself with majesty and dignity; clothe yourself with glory and splendor. Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.

14 then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!| Then will I also acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you. Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you.
15 |Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox. “Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox. “Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox.
16 Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen. Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly. What strength it has in its loins, what power in the muscles of its belly!
17 His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength. He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together. Its tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.
18 His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron. Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like rods of iron.
19 He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword. “He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword! It ranks first among the works of God, yet its Maker can approach it with his sword.
20 Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic. For the mountains yield food for him where all the wild beasts play. The hills bring it their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby.
21 He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes. Under the lotus plants he lies, in the shelter of the reeds and in the marsh. Under the lotus plants it lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh.
22 The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him. For his shade the lotus trees cover him; the willows of the brook surround him. The lotuses conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround it.
23 What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows. Behold, if the river is turbulent he is not frightened; he is confident though Jordan rushes against his mouth. A raging river does not alarm it; it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth.
24 Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?| Can one take him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a snare? Can anyone capture it by the eyes, or trap it and pierce its nose?
