And it came to pass in that year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azzur prophet, who was from Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of YHWH before the face of the priests and all the people, saying: | In that same year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fifth month of the fourth year, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet from Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and all the people, saying, | In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people: |
“Thus says YHWH of Hosts, the God of Israel, saying: ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. | “Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. | “This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. |
Within two years I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the house of YHWH that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon. | Within two years I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the LORD’s house, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon. | Within two years I will bring back to this place all the articles of the LORD’s house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed from here and took to Babylon. |
And Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim the king of Judah and all the captives of Judah who went to Babylon I will bring back to this place’—a declaration of YHWH—‘For I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon!’” | I will also bring back to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the exiles from Judah who went to Babylon, declares the LORD, for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.” | I will also bring back to this place Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and all the other exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’” |
And Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Hananiah the prophet before the face of the priests and before the face of all the people who stood in the house of YHWH, | Then the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Hananiah the prophet in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD, | Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah before the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD. |
and Jeremiah the prophet said: “Amen! So may YHWH do it! May YHWH perform your words that you have prophesied, to bring back the vessels of the house of YHWH, and all the captive, from Babylon to this place.” | and the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May the LORD do so; may the LORD make the words that you have prophesied come true, and bring back to this place from Babylon the vessels of the house of the LORD, and all the exiles. | He said, “Amen! May the LORD do so! May the LORD fulfill the words you have prophesied by bringing the articles of the LORD’s house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon. |
Nevertheless, hear now this word that I am speaking in your ears and in the ears of all the people. | Yet hear now this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people. | Nevertheless, listen to what I have to say in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people: |
The prophets who have been before me and before you from of old, even they prophesied to many lands and over great kingdoms regarding war and disaster and pestilence. | The prophets who preceded you and me from ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence against many countries and great kingdoms. | From early times the prophets who preceded you and me have prophesied war, disaster and plague against many countries and great kingdoms. |
The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, that prophet will be known as one whom YHWH truly has sent. | As for the prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of that prophet comes to pass, then it will be known that the LORD has truly sent the prophet.” | But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by the LORD only if his prediction comes true.” |
And Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it. | Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke-bars from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke them. | Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it, |
And Hananiah spoke before the face of all the people, saying: “Thus says YHWH—‘Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon within two full years from the neck of all the nations!’” And Jeremiah the prophet went on his way. | And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Thus says the LORD: Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all the nations within two years.” But Jeremiah the prophet went his way. | and he said before all the people, “This is what the LORD says: ‘In the same way I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years.’” At this, the prophet Jeremiah went on his way. |
And came the word of YHWH to Jeremiah) After Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet), saying: | Sometime after the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke-bars from off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: | After the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: |
“Go and speak to Hananiah, saying: Thus says YHWH—‘You have broken yokes of wood, and you have fashioned in their place yokes of iron! | “Go, tell Hananiah, ‘Thus says the LORD: You have broken wooden bars, but you have made in their place bars of iron. | “Go and tell Hananiah, ‘This is what the LORD says: You have broken a wooden yoke, but in its place you will get a yoke of iron. |
For thus says YHWH of Hosts, the God of Israel: ‘A yoke of iron I have put on the neck of all these nations, to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they shall serve him. And also I have given the beast of the field to him.’” | For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I have put upon the neck of all these nations an iron yoke to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they shall serve him, for I have given to him even the beasts of the field.’” | This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations to make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I will even give him control over the wild animals.’” |
And Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet: “Hear now, Hananiah! YHWH has not sent you, and you have made this people to trust in a lie! | And Jeremiah the prophet said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, and you have made this people trust in a lie. | Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen, Hananiah! The LORD has not sent you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies. |
Therefore, thus says YHWH: ‘Behold, I am going to cast you from the face of the earth. This year you will die, because you have taught rebellion against YHWH.’” | Therefore thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have uttered rebellion against the LORD.’” | Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This very year you are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.’” |
