1 Therefore ought we more diligently to observe the things which we have heard, lest perhaps we should let them slip. Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
2 For if the word, spoken by angels, became steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward: For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,
3 How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation? which having begun to be declared by the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard him. how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
4 God also bearing them witness by signs, and wonders, and divers miracles, and distributions of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will. while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
5 For God hath not subjected unto angels the world to come, whereof we speak. For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
6 But one in a certain place hath testified, saying: What is man, that thou art mindful of him: or the son of man, that thou visitest him? It has been testified somewhere, “What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him? But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him?
7 Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels: thou hast crowned him with glory and honour, and hast set him over the works of thy hands: You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor, You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor
8 Thou hast subjected all things under his feet. For in that he hath subjected all things to him, he left nothing not subject to him. But now we see not as yet all things subject to him. putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. and put everything under their feet.” In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour: that, through the grace of God, he might taste death for all. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, who had brought many children into glory, to perfect the author of their salvation, by his passion. For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.
11 For both he that sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified, are all of one. For which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.
12 I will declare thy name to my brethren; in the midst of the church will I praise thee. saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing your praises.”
13 And again: I will put my trust in him. And again: Behold I and my children, whom God hath given me. And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again he says, “Here am I, and the children God has given me.”
14 Therefore because the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner hath been partaker of the same: that, through death, he might destroy him who had the empire of death, that is to say, the devil: Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—
15 And might deliver them, who through the fear of death were all their lifetime subject to servitude. and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
16 For no where doth he take hold of the angels: but of the seed of Abraham he taketh hold. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.
17 Wherefore it behoved him in all things to be made like unto his brethren, that he might become a merciful and faithful priest before God, that he might be a propitiation for the sins of the people. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
18 For in that, wherein he himself hath suffered and been tempted, he is able to succour them also that are tempted. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
