1 And Israel journeyed, and all that was his, and he came to Beersheba and he sacrificed sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. So Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
2 And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Behold, it is I.” And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!” “Here I am,” he replied.
3 And He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not fear from going down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. “I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.
4 I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up, and Joseph will put his hand on your eyes.” I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph’s hand shall close your eyes.” I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”
5 And Jacob arose from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father and their little ones and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. Then Jacob set out from Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him.
6 And they took their livestock and their possessions that they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his seed with him, They also took their livestock and their goods, which they had gained in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him, So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan.
7 his sons, and the sons of his sons with him, and his daughters, and the daughters of his sons, and all his seed he brought with him to Egypt. his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters. All his offspring he brought with him into Egypt. Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.
8 And these are the names of the sons of Israel, the ones coming to Egypt—Jacob and his sons: The firstborn of Jacob, Reuben. Now these are the names of the descendants of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob.
9 And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, and Pallu, and Hezron, and Carmi. and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. The sons of Reuben: Hanok, Pallu, Hezron and Karmi.
10 And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul son of the Canaanitess. The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.
11 And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
12 And the sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Perez, and Zerah; and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. 15 These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, and together with Dinah his daughter. All the souls, his sons and his daughters, were thirty and three. These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah; altogether his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three. These were the sons Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan Aram, besides his daughter Dinah. These sons and daughters of his were thirty-three in all.

17 And the sons of Asher: Imnah, and Ishvah, and Ishvi, and Beriah, and Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, with Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi and Beriah. Their sister was Serah. 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob—six and ten souls. These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons. These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah—sixteen in all.
19 The sons of Rachel, wife of Jacob: Joseph and Benjamin. The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin. The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
20 And there were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him: Manasseh and Ephraim. And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera the priest of On, bore to him. In Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.
21 And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard. And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard.
22 These are the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob—four and ten souls in all. These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all. These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob—fourteen in all.
23 And the sons of Dan: Hushim. The son of Dan: Hushim. The son of Dan: Hushim.
24 And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem. The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem.
25 These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob—seven souls in all. These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob—seven persons in all. These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel—seven in all.
26 All the souls—the ones coming to Jacob, to Egypt, the ones coming out of his thigh, besides the wives of the sons of Jacob—were sixty and six souls in all. All the persons belonging to Jacob who came into Egypt, who were his own descendants, not including Jacob’s sons’ wives, were sixty-six persons in all. All those who went to Egypt with Jacob—those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons’ wives—numbered sixty-six persons.
27 And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, the ones coming to Egypt, were seventy. And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy. With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all.
28 And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to direct before him to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen. He had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to show the way before him in Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen. Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen,
29 And Joseph harnessed his chariot, and he went up to Goshen to meet Israel his father, and he appeared to him, and he fell on his necks, and he wept on his necks a long time. Then Joseph prepared his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen. He presented himself to him and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while. Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time.
30 And Israel said to Joseph, “Let me die now, after my seeing your face, for you are still alive.” Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive.” Israel said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.”
31 And Joseph said to his brothers and to the house of his father, “I will go up and let me tell Pharaoh and let me say to him, ‘My brothers and the house of my father, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me. Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me. Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
32 And the men are shedherds of sheep, for they have been men of livestock; and their flocks and their herds and all that is theirs, they have brought.’ And the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.’ The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’
33 And it shall be, when Pharaoh calls you⁺ and says, ‘What are your⁺ works?’ When Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your occupation?’ When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’
34 That you⁺ shall say, ‘Your servants have been men of livestock from our youth and even until now, both we and also our fathers,’ so that you⁺ may dwell in the land of Goshen. For an abomination of Egypt is every shepherd of sheep.” you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ in order that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.” you should answer, ‘Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.”
