1 Now it happened that after these things, the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt offended their lord, the king of Egypt. Some time after this, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker committed an offense against their lord the king of Egypt. Some time later, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt.
2 And Pharaoh was furious with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,
3 So he put them in confinement in the house of the captain of the bodyguard, in the jail, the same place where Joseph was imprisoned. and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined. and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the same prison where Joseph was confined.
4 And the captain of the bodyguard appointed Joseph as overseer over them, and he attended to them; and they were in confinement for some time. The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. They continued for some time in custody. The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he attended them. After they had been in custody for some time,
5 Then the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt, who were confined in jail, both had a dream the same night, each man with his own dream and each dream with its own interpretation. And one night they both dreamed—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison—each his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation. each of the two men—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were being held in prison—had a dream the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own.
6 Now Joseph came to them in the morning and saw them, and behold, they were dejected. When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were troubled. When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected.
7 So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were with him in confinement in his master’s house, saying, “Why are your faces so sad today?” So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in custody in his master’s house, “Why are your faces downcast today?” So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today?”

Recount it to me, please.” They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.” “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”
9 So the chief cupbearer recounted his dream to Joseph and said to him, “In my dream, behold, there was a vine in front of me; So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, “In my dream there was a vine before me, So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, “In my dream I saw a vine in front of me,
10 and on the vine were three branches. And as it was budding, its blossoms came out, and its clusters produced ripe grapes. and on the vine there were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes. and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes.
11 Now Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; so I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.” Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.” Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.”
12 Then Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days; Then Joseph said to him, “This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days. “This is what it means,” Joseph said to him. “The three branches are three days.
13 within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office; and you will put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand according to your former custom when you were his cupbearer. In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office, and you shall place Pharaoh’s cup in his hand as formerly, when you were his cupbearer. Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.
14 Only remember me when it goes well with you, and please show me lovingkindness by remembering me to Pharaoh and getting me out of this house. Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house. But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison.
15 For I was in fact stolen from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the pit.” For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.” I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.”
16 And the chief baker saw that he had interpreted favorably, so he said to Joseph, “I also saw in my dream, and behold, there were three baskets of white bread on my head; When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, “I also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head, When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread.
17 and in the top basket there were some of all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.” and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head.” In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”
18 Then Joseph answered and said, “This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days; And Joseph answered and said, “This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. “This is what it means,” Joseph said. “The three baskets are three days.
19 within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head off of you and will hang you on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh off of you.” In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head—from you!—and hang you on a tree. And the birds will eat the flesh from you.” Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head and impale your body on a pole. And the birds will eat away your flesh.”
20 Thus it happened on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. 21 And he restored the chief cupbearer to his office, and he put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand; He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand—
22 but he hanged the chief baker, just as Joseph had interpreted to them. But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. but he impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation.
23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him. Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him. The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.
