1 So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him, |You must not marry a Canaanite woman! Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women. So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman.
2 Leave immediately for Paddan Aram! Go to the house of Bethuel, your mother's father, and find yourself a wife there, among the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother. Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father, and take as your wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother. Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
3 May the sovereign God bless you! May he make you fruitful and give you a multitude of descendants! Then you will become a large nation. God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.
4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing he gave to Abraham so that you may possess the land God gave to Abraham, the land where you have been living as a temporary resident.| May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!” May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.”
5 So Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean and brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau. Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother. Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.
6 Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him off to Paddan Aram to find a wife there. As he blessed him, Isaac commanded him, |You must not marry a Canaanite woman.| Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,” Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,”
7 Jacob obeyed his father and mother and left for Paddan Aram. and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram.
8 Then Esau realized that the Canaanite women were displeasing to his father Isaac. So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac;
9 So Esau went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Abraham's son Ishmael, along with the wives he already had. Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth. so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.
10 Meanwhile Jacob left Beer Sheba and set out for Haran. Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran.
11 He reached a certain place where he decided to camp because the sun had gone down. He took one of the stones and placed it near his head. Then he fell asleep in that place And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. 13 and the LORD stood at its top. He said, |I am the LORD, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of your father Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the ground you are lying on. And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. There above it stood the LORD, and he said: “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, east, north, and south. All the families of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using your name and that of your descendants. Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.
15 I am with you! I will protect you wherever you go and will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I promised you!| Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. 16 Then Jacob woke up and thought, |Surely the LORD is in this place, but I did not realize it!| Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.” When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”
17 He was afraid and said, |What an awesome place this is! This is nothing else than the house of God! This is the gate of heaven!| And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”
18 Early in the morning Jacob took the stone he had placed near his head and set it up as a sacred stone. Then he poured oil on top of it. 22 Then this stone that I have set up as a sacred stone will be the house of God, and I will surely give you back a tenth of everything you give me.| and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.” and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”
