1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, saying: Take not a wife of the stock of Chanaan: Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women. So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman.
2 But go, and take a journey to Mesopotamia of Syria, to the house of Bathuel thy mother's father, and take thee a wife thence of the daughters of Laban thy uncle. Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father, and take as your wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother. Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
3 And God almighty bless thee, and make thee to increase, and multiply thee: that thou mayst be a multitude of people. God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.
4 And give the blessings of Abrabam to thee, and to thy seed after thee: that thou mayst possess the land of thy sojournment, which he promised to thy grandfather. May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!” May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.”
5 And when Isaac had sent him away, he took his journey and went to Mesopotamia of Syria to Laban the son of Bathuel the Syrian, brother to Rebecca his mother. Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother. Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.
6 And Esau seeing that his father had blessed Jacob, and had sent him into Mesopotamia of Syria, to marry a wife thence; and that after the blessing he had charged him, saying: Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Chanaan: Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,” Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,”
7 And that Jacob obeying his parents was gone into Syria: and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram.
8 Experiencing also that his father was not well pleased with the daughters of Chanaan: So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac;
9 He went to Ismael, and took to wife, besides them he had before, Maheleth the daughter of Ismael, Abraham's son, the sister of Nabajoth. Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth. so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.
10 But Jacob being departed from Bersabee, went on to Haran. Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran.
11 And when he was come to a certain place, and would rest in it after sunset, he took of the stones that lay there, and putting under his head, slept in the same place. And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.
12 And he saw in his sleep a ladder standing upon the earth, and the top thereof touching heaven: the angels also of God ascending and descending by it; And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
13 And the Lord leaning upon the ladder, saying to him: I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac; the land, wherein thou sleepest, I will give to thee and to thy seed. And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. There above it stood the LORD, and he said: “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth: thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and IN THEE and thy seed all the tribes of the earth SHALL BE BLESSED. Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.
15 And I will be thy keeper whithersoever thou goest, and will bring thee back into this land: neither will I leave thee, till I shall have accomplished all that I have said. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
16 And when Jacob awaked out of sleep, he said: Indeed the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not. Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.” When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”
17 And trembling he said: How terrible is this place! this is no other but the house of God, and the gate of heaven. And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”
18 And Jacob, arising in the morning, took the stone, which he had laid under his head, and set it up for a title, pouring oil upon the top of it. So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.
19 And he called the name of the city Bethel, which before was called Luza. He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.
20 And he made a vow, saying: If God shall be with me, and shall keep me in the way by which I walk, and shall give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear
21 And I shall return prosperously to my father's house: the Lord shall be my God: so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God, so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the LORD will be my God
22 And this stone, which I have set up for a title, shall called the house of God: and of all things that thou shalt give to me, I will offer tithes to thee. and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.” and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”
