33 וְכִֽי־ יִפְתַּ֨ח אִ֜ישׁ בּ֗וֹר א֠וֹ כִּֽי־ יִכְרֶ֥ה אִ֛ישׁ בֹּ֖ר וְלֹ֣א יְכַסֶּ֑נּוּ וְנָֽפַל־ שָׁ֥מָּה שּׁ֖וֹר א֥וֹ חֲמֽוֹר׃ “When a man opens a pit, or when a man digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it, “If anyone uncovers a pit or digs one and fails to cover it and an ox or a donkey falls into it,
34 בַּ֤עַל הַבּוֹר֙ יְשַׁלֵּ֔ם כֶּ֖סֶף יָשִׁ֣יב לִבְעָלָ֑יו וְהַמֵּ֖ת יִֽהְיֶה־ לּֽוֹ׃ ס the owner of the pit shall make restoration. He shall give money to its owner, and the dead beast shall be his. the one who opened the pit must pay the owner for the loss and take the dead animal in exchange.
35 וְכִֽי־ יִגֹּ֧ף שֽׁוֹר־ אִ֛ישׁ אֶת־ שׁ֥וֹר רֵעֵ֖הוּ וָמֵ֑ת וּמָ֨כְר֜וּ אֶת־ הַשּׁ֤וֹר הַחַי֙ וְחָצ֣וּ אֶת־ כַּסְפּ֔וֹ וְגַ֥ם אֶת־ הַמֵּ֖ת יֶֽחֱצֽוּן׃ “When one man’s ox butts another’s, so that it dies, then they shall sell the live ox and share its price, and the dead beast also they shall share. “If anyone’s bull injures someone else’s bull and it dies, the two parties are to sell the live one and divide both the money and the dead animal equally.
Or if it is known that the ox has been accustomed to gore in the past, and its owner has not kept it in, he shall repay ox for ox, and the dead beast shall be his. However, if it was known that the bull had the habit of goring, yet the owner did not keep it penned up, the owner must pay, animal for animal, and take the dead animal in exchange.
