1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned for fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother was Hephzibah. 2 He did evil in the sight of the LORD and committed the same horrible sins practiced by the nations whom the LORD drove out from before the Israelites. And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the despicable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel. He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
3 He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he set up altars for Baal and made an Asherah pole just like King Ahab of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the stars in the sky and worshiped them. For he rebuilt the high places that Hezekiah his father had destroyed, and he erected altars for Baal and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. 4 He built altars in the LORD's temple, about which the LORD had said, |Jerusalem will be my home.| And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem will I put my name.” He built altars in the temple of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I will put my Name.”
5 In the two courtyards of the LORD's temple he built altars for all the stars in the sky. And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. In the two courts of the temple of the LORD, he built altars to all the starry hosts.
6 He passed his son through the fire and practiced divination and omen reading. He set up a ritual pit to conjure up underworld spirits, and appointed magicians to supervise it. He did a great amount of evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger. And he burned his son as an offering and used fortune-telling and omens and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger. He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced divination, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, arousing his anger.
7 He put an idol of Asherah he had made in the temple, about which the LORD had said to David and to his son Solomon, |This temple in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will be my permanent home. And the carved image of Asherah that he had made he set in the house of which the LORD said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever. 8 I will not make Israel again leave the land I gave to their ancestors, provided that they carefully obey all I commanded them, the whole law my servant Moses ordered them to obey.| And I will not cause the feet of Israel to wander anymore out of the land that I gave to their fathers, if only they will be careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the Law that my servant Moses commanded them.” I will not again make the feet of the Israelites wander from the land I gave their ancestors, if only they will be careful to do everything I commanded them and will keep the whole Law that my servant Moses gave them.”
9 But they did not obey, and Manasseh misled them so that they sinned more than the nations whom the LORD had destroyed from before the Israelites. But they did not listen, and Manasseh led them astray to do more evil than the nations had done whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel. But the people did not listen. 12 So this is what the LORD God of Israel says, 'I am about to bring disaster on Jerusalem and Judah. The news will reverberate in the ears of those who hear about it. therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing upon Jerusalem and Judah such disaster that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.
13 I will destroy Jerusalem the same way I did Samaria and the dynasty of Ahab. I will wipe Jerusalem clean, just as one wipes a plate on both sides. And I will stretch over Jerusalem the measuring line of Samaria, and the plumb line of the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the plumb line used against the house of Ahab. 16 Furthermore Manasseh killed so many innocent people, he stained Jerusalem with their blood from end to end, in addition to encouraging Judah to sin by doing evil in the sight of the LORD. Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides the sin that he made Judah to sin so that they did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. Moreover, Manasseh also shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end—besides the sin that he had caused Judah to commit, so that they did evil in the eyes of the LORD.
17 The rest of the events of Manasseh's reign and all his accomplishments, as well as the sinful acts he committed, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah. Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh and all that he did, and the sin that he committed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? As for the other events of Manasseh’s reign, and all he did, including the sin he committed, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?
18 Manasseh passed away and was buried in his palace garden, the garden of Uzzah, and his son Amon replaced him as king. And Manasseh slept with his fathers and was buried in the garden of his house, in the garden of Uzza, and Amon his son reigned in his place. Manasseh rested with his ancestors and was buried in his palace garden, the garden of Uzza. And Amon his son succeeded him as king.

21 He followed in the footsteps of his father and worshiped and bowed down to the disgusting idols which his father had worshiped. He walked in all the way in which his father walked and served the idols that his father served and worshiped them. He followed completely the ways of his father, worshiping the idols his father had worshiped, and bowing down to them.
22 He abandoned the LORD God of his ancestors and did not follow the LORD's instructions. He abandoned the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD. He forsook the LORD, the God of his ancestors, and did not walk in obedience to him.
23 Amon's servants conspired against him and killed the king in his palace. And the servants of Amon conspired against him and put the king to death in his house. Amon’s officials conspired against him and assassinated the king in his palace.
24 The people of the land executed all those who had conspired against King Amon, and they made his son Josiah king in his place. But the people of the land struck down all those who had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place. Then the people of the land killed all who had plotted against King Amon, and they made Josiah his son king in his place.
25 The rest of Amon's accomplishments are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah. Now the rest of the acts of Amon that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? As for the other events of Amon’s reign, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?
26 He was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzzah, and his son Josiah replaced him as king. And he was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza, and Josiah his son reigned in his place. He was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza. And Josiah his son succeeded him as king.
